  • Its here a healthy White Auto GXL D4D

After three months of waiting have taken delivery , filled it up (ouch) and drove the 50 odd k's back to Gold Coast from Brisbane.

What a great truck to drive, heaps more power than my old 4.5 80 series ,

Only problem I have is that I had the grand trek tyres changed to Bridgstone 694's and the hard wheel cover would not fit easily so dealer and the Bob Jane man left it as is.
They will refund the price but , if possible , would like to have the cover on.

Will raise this on the relative thread , and have sent a pm to Addy as he said he had a way to fit it.
If anyone else has fitted one to a GXL D4D please let me know the secret.

Borgy, I know yours is getting a bit closer and mate , its well worth waiting for.
Thanks to all for your patience and help with making selection of various accessories, and general info.
    Its a great forum.

Congratulations Pedro, well done mate. They say the best things in life are worth waiting for, I am sure you will now agree. It is a wonderful car, enjoy.

Any excuse I find to drive mine, I do. Cant keep me out of it.

Post some pictures as soon as you can.

I could have told you that the Hard cover wont fit (mate has BFG's) and they took off the cost of the hard cover and installed a safari snorkel instead.

I still only have the Grandtreks, but use the vinyl wheel cover, I think it looks great. Some say that by having a wheel cover you are less likely to check the condition of the spare until it is all too obvious and too late when you need it the most....................

I am truly glad that you have finally taken delivery of it, I expect more questions to come after some tinkering and playing.

    Regards,

    Rob

            Thanks for the thoughts.

            Size of the Bridgstone's is 265 65 R17.

Team Piggy are they the same as yours and do you have the standard wheel cover.

Will try and get some photos asap

I know the hard covers look great but I have seen a tyre shredded & in a real mess out bush & there's no way he would have been able to get a hard cover over it. Car was full of camping gear. Do you leave it behind in the bush? I would say great for the city but consider removing it if you go bush.
Well done on your purchase. Tip, fill the car when the 90L light comes on then it will only hurt half as much

Boring White, stock standard except for proper recovery points on front & shortly a decent air compressor. I spent too much on the car to do anything else to it yet

Thats the normal size tyre arrangement. It should fit fine.
The only way they dont fit is over 70 series tyres.

Most take the covers off when they go bush, I know I do.

Its more useful around the city to stop buggers trying to flog your spare.

                            Pedro,
I have not got a wheel cover, for much the same reason's as MikeA & if I was to leave it at home when going bush, it would become a storage problem.

If as you say the tyres are the same size, then it all becomes a Toyota design problem. All tyres have to be with-in fairly close tolerances re diameter & width.
Maybe that is why we see so many crooked fitting covers on Prado's.
I haven't been there. "Are they that hard to fit"???

Anyway Pedro you should be out playing, not answering all of these postings?

Enjoy the new car smell while you can.
