  • Air Compressor under seat?

    Hi,
Couldnt find amthread anywhere, has anyone installed an ARB air Compressor under their front seat in a 120 Series, any issues with it, do you wish you hadn't. Thinking of doing the same. Are there preferences for Engine Bay mounting?
    Thanks
    Jason

Well - there's certainly more mud, dust and heat in the engine bay...

engine bay would be my choice, nothing worse then a compressor buzzing away under the seat, and if you decide you want to run air lockers in the future you will not only have to run power wires you will need to run the air line as well, just a thought. cheers samo

        Hi Jason
Quite a few members have mounted their various brands of compressors under seat or alternatively incorporated it into a rear cargo draw set up.
Personally I have our ARB compressor mounted under bonnet as future wish list includes at least one Air Locker and wouldn't want to listen to it cycling while driving. Of course when you are re inflating tyres you will be out of the vehicle so avoiding the sound of the compressor running.
        Hope this helps.
        Cheers Troy

            Re: Air Compressor under seat?

I have both a 70 series and a 90 series and I chose to mount the ARB compressors under the passenger seat.
The buz is no big deal.

The height is no big deal as the compressor can be rotated on its mount by up to 90 degrees in either direction.

As for air lockers, I have front and rear in the 70 series and they were run thru the rubber grommet under the seat to the compressor.
            No drilling required.

Wiring was a piece of cake as well as access through the firewall again can be done through the existing grommets where other wiring runs.
Just seal the splits with some silicone when done.

And yes my compressors are not exposed to the heat and muck that the ones under the bonnet cop, thus they last longer with less servicing required.

Mine's in the engine bay, which means more cabin space for luggage and drinks!

                Hi all,
Opted to go for the ARB compressor under Passengers seat and am very happy with, went to Macarthur 4wd, the install looks good, its easy to fit the hose (sure the missus will enjoy it every time I reach down to connect) and the rear net is a good place to store the hose and the ARB trye inflator. No problem reaching all tyres, will need an extension to get to trailer, no lockers yet but will see how it goes. Test next weekend, thanks for the advice>

                  Hi Jason,
we have ours under the passenger seat and are really happy with it - the only concern we had is about how it might go if we get any water in the car after a water crossing - but given that compressors are usually in engine bays and get a lot more water under there than we plan to get under the seat we don't think it will create problems!

                    Hi All,

After speaking to ARB Head Office, ARB Southern in Dandenong and Piranha Off Road (Head Office), they have all basicly said under the Bonnet is better.
They suggested mounting it behind the Fuel Filter, as the ARB compressor can mounted in any angle.
Reason for mounting under the bonnet - It is up higher than mounting it under the Front Seat option. I will be mounting mine under the bonnet when I get one in a few months, so I can mount my Codan HF under the Seat, when I buy one.

Just a note for compressors mounted in cab. When you fit difflocks the exhaust air when the diff is disengaged vents into the cab and stinks like diff oil. To prevent this fit airlines to the exhaust on the valve and vent out of the cab. Did this on my 80 series to stop the stink. Now only mount under bonnet.
