  • Sounds good. Initial wash is done mainly to get sea spray off and mud off, heading down to flufferz on Friday to get it sparkly.

I think I have early next week off, so could do then if it suits.

    • I have a query regarding some brackets on the cross member under the radiator. Do all of you have 2 brackets that hold onto some tubing, which are bolted to the crossmember, near the front mounting points of the front bashplates? See pic

I have added a spacer so that the bashplate does not hit this bracket but then I noticed that in a lot of the photos with the DIY radiator bashplate, no one seems to have allowed a cutout for this bracket.

      • I've got them. I think they could be trans cooler lines??

Pain in the butt when I was installing my BD plates.

I don't recall seeing any brackets like that before, on either of my Prados. I will be pulling my bash plates off tomorrow to remove some mud that has mysteriously got stuck up there, I will double check for you.

          Cheers Andrew

            • Based on the posts so far, it looks like those brackets are specific to the V6 only ???

              • AMTS - any time you want to check sump plug positioning let me know. I am only 5 mins away as you know. Certainly looking forward to the pricing as they look great. I'm 99% sure that I don't have those brackets as when I did my DIY radiator bash plate I didn't have any sort of brackets to contend with other than the little clips on the Toyota sump guard.

Switched - did all the underbody scraping in the bog-holes on the weekend leave you wishing for better underbody protection??? It sure did for me

I concur with that Andrew, definately nothing on mine and I am positive my 2005 was the same as my current one. If its not an age factor it must either be a Petrol / Diesel issue or a model issue, GXL, Grande etc.

                  Cheers Andrew

I think hdtdamo has a V6 GXL. So it must be a V6 issue. Shall ponder over this a bit more. Simplest solution is to remove the welded spacer as I initially intended and supply the spacer loose for V6 owners. Then maybe a bit of blutac to keep the spacer in place on the cross member while inserting the screw and juggling the radiator and sump plates all at the same tiime. Oh well, that's what you get for not buying a diesel.

                    • I DO have them on my 03 Grande V6.
They are mountings for the auto transmission oil cooler lines.
They run from the transmission to the oil cooler which is in front of the radiator on the left hand side.
                      Hope that helps
                      Cheers

                      • I read somewhere that the V6 runs an external trans cooler, where as the diesels don't. That's what they would be for.

I have a V6 and I trimmed the little vertical tabs off, so that the plate would sit flat against the crossmber. Not ideal, but it works.
                        Cheers, Damo

It's only a matter of time until you V6 owners come to your senses

                          • It seems that only the petrol V6 has the additional external oil cooler for the transmission.
I suppose that would be because the diesel doesnt put enough power through the tranny to require one
