  • DIY Sand flag connector

was asked by a mate the other day to make up a sand flag connector. i had a look through the shed and found a few things. all you need is a male and female 3/4 inch QDS hydraulic fittings, 1/2 inch UNF nut, M12 x 25 mm blot and ut plus a welder. The UNF nut was welded on to the female end of the fitting, this allow the sand flag to screw straight in for a quick disconnect, the m12 bolt was welded on to the end of the male fitting, this in turn is bolted on to the mount where the sand flag is to be attached. took about 10min in all to knock up. this will be much stronger then the brass air fitting which i have seen used and break off every time you hit a tree with the flag.
    connected

    disconnected

                        Looks very functional indeed.
As long as it holds, that's the main thing.

The sand flag I bought came with a connetion that looks pretty much the same. Works well. The only issue i've had with it was when sand had been caught in the fitting and it would not disengage. Had to drive from Big Red to Birsdville with the flag flapping like mad.

all fittings can have trouble especially with sand, just a but of a tap and they usually come good. cheers samo
