  • Dual Battery,Redarc and trailer anderson plug wiring install

Had the day off today and finally got around to fitting the dual battery system in my 120.
Made up a tray out of stainless to fit in behind the drivers headlight.
I scored 30m ea of 25mm2 ( 3awg) red and black left over from a crayboat rewire so installed that using 16mm nylon corr conduit for single runs and 25mm HD corr sheathed conduit for the dual run to anderson plug at towbar for camper.
Fitted up a 100A redarc on firewall passenger side using two existing studs.
ran from redarc over to drivers side where I fitted a Cole Hersey dual battery switch. This enables me to isolate the second battery, and switch between OFF, second battery only, camper socket only or both on at same time. This way the rear socket is not live all the time.
Protecting wiring are ANL 100amp fuses at main and second battery + terminals and a 50 amb C/Breaker for the run to the camper socket. I knocket up a bracket for the anderson plug to protect it from knocks.
The conduit run I laid on side of chassis using existing threaded holes and electrical half saddles.

when I crimped up the anderson pins I also crimped in a 6mm2 supply protected by a waterproof blade fuse holder. This gives me another12V supply in case I want to run a second fridge in rear.

Whilst trying to feed cable through floor I found the source of the dust in rear panels. The rubber grommet that toyota use to bring in the trailer wiring had split wide open, sealed it back up with military spec silastic.
If you can find it its Dow Corning 3145 RTV Adhesive Sealant. The stuff leaves silicon or Sikaflex for dead.
Sory about photos but havent worked out new system for posting correctly.

Tray. redarc and bracket, tray, Cole Hersey switch and fuse on main battery.
(Second battery not fitted in at moment problem with hold down bolts.)

Like the quality of the tray, what size battery do you plan on fitting.

Very tidy job on the Anderson Plug bracket... Consider making a few more

With or Without the fancy holes??
Theres not much to make them. ive made a few for my camper and fridge but thet were the 50 amp ones. The 175 A are easier to make because the bends aren't as tight. And them once youve sorted the first one the rest are easy.

Decided yesterday to do away with the ANL fuses and fit 100A breakers instead,
Mounted them on each +ve terminal on the batteries, just to keep it neat and I didnt want to mount on firewall or guards with leads to the battery.
Used on the aux battery just a 16mm lug "filled" with copper and then crimped up. Then bolted the hole end to breaker and tighted other end of lug under the cable clamp of battery terminal.
The main battery I did same as other but before I crimped it I slid a 25mm lug over it to give me a "double ended" lug'
Used this with a covering of heatshrink to connect breaker to original battery terminal.
Both are very secure and its always best to have the protection as close to source as possible.
Ive got a 8 Tonne Hyd crimper so it makes crimps nice and tight and round.
I saw some good battery terminal covers on a falcon the other day so will get some to cover the odd shaped terminals I got.

I've seen those terminals around lately and they look like the go for something like this. Multiple points for attatching cables...

I got them with the isolator on fleabay. probably the first set Ive seen that work when clamping down on the battery leads.
worked well clamping down on the lug for the breaker.
