  • Front Air Locker

    Hey Guys,
Just had my front airlocker fitted. Now just looking for somewhere to give it a go. ARB in Osbourne Park, Perth were great spending a good deal of care to ensure it was fitted correctly. Possibly because it was the first they have done

Do you have rear locker as well or have you had the front locker fitted without having a rear locker?

      Hey Guys,
Will try to get some pics of the engine bay and underneath the car. I have two ARB compressors running in parallel (one was from my old car). I now have air lockers front and rear. Should be fun.

      Cheers

          Hey playdo,

I wouldnt mind some feedback on the air lockers you had fitted. I was thinking of getting it done to my 120 Prado. Make much difference offroad? worth the money?

          Thanks

Wengnuts from past vehicles it takes appro 10 to 15 sec to fill the small
reservior with air to operate the lockers which gives you a couple goes before kicking in again to fill reservior.
On my patrol, diff and axle strengh isn't a problem but with let down tyres you take all the shock out of sudden traction, or loss of it. Think of a drag car leaving the line the rim turns slightly inside the tyre to absorb the shock of the sudden power being transmitted through it.
This is what can snap cv joints and snap axles. The beauty with lockers is that you can crawl over most things without hurting the vehicle at idle speed, no more crash and bash.
I prefer, if only one locker is installed that it be the rear, reason is that most times you really require your locker is up muddie, steep, uneven hills, were most of the vehicles weight is over the rear axle for maximin traction. Also you have less chance of damaging your cv joints in the front which are weaker than your rear diff.
              Anyway have fun Cheers Phil

Wengnuts with your 2nd question always try with rears only first and ifyou can't make it than try with both front and rear.
Remember that if you get stuck with front and rear lockers fitted to your 4wd then your really really stuck, someone without lockers might find it a challenge to get you out of the s!#t !!.
                Cheers Phil

Have you tried out the lockers. Care to share your experiences? Picked up mine from ARB today. Going out this weekend.

                  A couple of question.

                  1) Being a f/time 4x4, what happen if you turn on the lockers without engaging low range? You will run locked in high range (assuming center diff is locked)
                  2) Will there be any damage if you use either the back lockers without the front and vice versa? The way ARB wire up the lockers you cannot engage the front without the rear already engaged
                  3) How long do you have to run the compressor before switching on the lockers? Yeah usually takes around 10sec

anyone else with experiences, please do not hesitate to contribute.
