Re: D.I.Y Rear windows sunshields
I did this on my old Challenger and it worked a treat. I bought the material by the metre from Clark Rubber which meant it had no pre-folded sections in it. In the Mitsi, I cut oversize & tucked under the plastic trim. With the prado, would need to find another way to attach.White '04 GXL Auto with

Re: D.I.Y Rear windows sunshields
Nice mod on the glass. I'll have a think about doing something like this if it gets to hot back there. I think the added ariel is also a great idea.Originally posted by pradogxlv6I found the back of my Prado is a pretty hot area, while fitting up a fridge socket last week. Decided to make these covers for the rear side window's only, to keep it all legal... I saw a article in 4WD Action a few months ago, where a bloke was traveling the outback, and he had taped in some screens too his back windows in his Maverick.
Anyhow, about a 1 hr job and 4 beers... Pretty cheap, about $15, works well..
1} Make a template and cut some old windscreen boxes to size.

2} Cut up some old windscreen shields and glue them to the carboard.

3} Fitted perfect, insulated on both sides to slow down the heat.

4} They look okay from the outside and slow down prying thieving eyes !

Did the same for the other side as well, just fitted one side to show everyone. A simple, cheap and effective modification... May help my Engel out when it's a hot day.
Go forth and modify thee Prado's...
Cheers,
Another point to make is that the Series 2 GXL's now all come with Privacy Tinting, for the rear passengers, just like the VX and Grande models.
Its a factory tint and while its not as good as sunvisor. It does help keep prying eyes at bay a little.

Yeah Stewy, my 07 GXL had the privacy glass. TintaCar Midnight fixed the front matchup nicely.
