    nice install matt it fits like a glove, if thats your your young fella? cause he looks better than you :lol: . have ya tested it to test its capacity yet. should charge lappy or camera easily while driving, would be interesting to see how long it would run lappy or something while not on charge. would really test out that deep cycle battery. cheers samo
    had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

                  Good job , that size cable would be ok for an inverter up to 800w .
                  An automotive auto reset circuit breaker would be more reliable than a fuse these are readily available from auto electricians and even Supercheap Auto's ,around 80 amps will be ok for 6mm2 as it's there to protect the cable not the inverter (it has internal blade fuses).
                  Lastly it is not necessary ,in fact it's undesirable , to solder a properly crimped connector (your crimper would be ok) . Generally a good crimper starts in the $50-100 range .
                  Take it from me ,and I've been sticking all types of cable on things for 35 years the connection will be much more reliable just crimped .

                    I agree 110%. Soldering connections actually degrade the connection in a vibrative environment like a vehicle.

                    It heats the insulation, often making it much less effective and being a solid joint, vibration will weaken the joint and the connection in the long run.

                      There have been a number of threads related to the install of inverters in prados, this is one of many. I have also read one about having a charger, Ctek 7000 running off an inverter to enable it to get full charge to a deep cycle battery, when travelling. I began such an install. I was looking at an inverter to buy when I came across a good thread that made me think again.

                      It seems that it is possible to get a fault that can lead to 240 volts going through the system or the body when is goes to ground. This got my attention. Imagine! Reach for your door only to find that you get a huge kick or worse, not to mention the damage to components. The more expensive units have safety features built in to overcome this poosibility.

                      Whatr do you think?

                        Nice neat job Matt.
                        I like the location of the inverter all hidden out of the way.
                        You've got me thinking about the earthing on the inverter. The vehicles ground is (should be) the same potential as the battery -ve and is connected at various points thoughout the vehicle either mechanical or electrically. Did the inverter require a reference point for the earth for it to work?

                          Sorry Matt for not replying earlier. Lifes a tad busy at present, family andso on.
                          Well my concerns explained are a longwinded to answer but here goes.
                          With inverters we're mixing DC and AC together. The -ve at the battery,
                          should be at the same potential/reference point as the frame, any where
                          through the vehicle. However, not all welds and electrical connections
                          in cars are the best they should/can be. e.g. vibration damage and
                          causing panels or connections to break. In a domestic installation such
                          as the home, the earth in a power socket is connected to the earth in
                          the ground itself. Easy to understand, right. Then we have an MEN system
                          in the house where the earth is connected to the neutral, at multiple
                          places in the network (your house, your neighbours' and so on).
                          The active then has a reference point for fault currents and can
                          activate your earth leakage protection (RCD or Safety Switch)(this is
                          different from OL overload protection). As the car is above the grounds
                          potential with our tyres providing this for us. There is no benifit for
                          connecting the earth of the inverter IF it is only connected to the case
                          of the inverter and the earth on the power socket.
                          Have I put a puzzled face on you?
                          I really lke the location of yours and knowing that it fits looking to get the same inverter actually, so when I do, I'll update the post with any findings on internal wiring and such.

                            I've just installed exactly the same inverter as Matt, and used his thread to do it. Wasnt sure where the Positive lead was tied in, so have gone through a relay for now, that shuts off when engine stops.

                            I had to pay $39 for the inverter compared to Matts $37, but thats inflation for you. And my teenage kids werent intersted in helping so had to go it alone

                            Have heard varying reports on electrical gear that dont like modified sinewave, so have given it a bit of a test with some of my appliances.

                            No problems with
                            Dell Inspiron, IBM or Toshiba laptop, JVC Video camera, Olympus MU300 camera charger, Energizer AA battery charger, Weller soldering Iron, big Camping fluro so I am assuming a multitude of other gizmos will be ok as well.
                            It did complain (beeped at me!!) when I plugged in my 13mm Bosch hammer drill though!!

                            This is the last little PP mod before I head North in next few weeks, except if the PP sticker turns up in time

                              I was looking for a location for the Power inverter which is easily accessable, has enough airflow and is out of the way.

                              I found some room under the passenger seat where the device is now hanging upside down on a self made bracket fixed to existing holes in the seat frame.
