  • Help Needed - Reverse Camera Fitting

    G'Day Crew,

Today I had my Polaris head unit fitted. The camera used was the "better" of them all, but does not show a very good picture at night (all fuzzy).

I was thinking of buying an Eclipse BEC-106 camera to put in its place.

For those that have installed an eclipse camera, I assume that the camera itself has a short lead which plugs into the main wire that is routed through the vehicle?

I am hoping if I take off the rear door panel that I could simply swap camera's over.............

Anyone here willing to help, I dont have the smarts to do it myself.

Hoping that the camera they fitted has the same style connector in the back panel.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

If you have already had a camera installed then it should be a fairly simply job to swap out the actual camera. However I noticed that the BEC-106 does not run the usual video cable that most reversing camera have as it is designed to interface with the AVN6000 head unit.

I would imagine that the Polaris folks have used a standard reversing camera design with seperate video and power/sense cables.

Also did they use a bullet style camera or one that is mounted externally?

I am in the process of installing a camera at the moment, I have basically finished the job but I have to connect up the sense wire from the head unit to the reverse light wire. I just need to find a spare hour to do it.
However I do not expect the camera I am using to be much cop as it is a CMOS sensor but I went for a quick cheap solution for the time being. The other camera I purchased turned out to be too big physically to mount where I wanted it. It would be a nice camera being as it is CCD sensor but it is more suited to being mounted on a caravan roof.

    Cheers

        Reverse Cam

        Jiff Mate

I have done this at a technician and He used a similar technique to the one shown on LCOOL. THis subject had been discussed previously here in the forume

here is the link with pictures

        http://www.lcool.org/technical/120_seri ... amera.html

Mav , mate you'll be subrised of the performance of the little midget of a camera you (& I) have in night , it's actually impresive considering it's size and the fact that it relies heavily on reverse break's lighting -THe light on the sides of the camer doesn't really help much-

        Cheers

          Hi Mansour,

The problem that Darkhorse may encounter is that the Polaris head unit may not be the same as the back of the Toyota head unit in that I am not sure if the Polaris unit has a seperate plug for connection for the camera.

The roadrover does not have a seperate plug connection it has a a standard RCA video connection to take the video from the camera and a separate reverse sense wire that needs to be connected to the reverse light.

I am not expecting a great picture from my cmera but I may get mysel a PIONEER ND-BC20PA in the future depending if I feel the need.

          Cheers

If you have the standard Toyota head unit Jeff then it would be an easy job to follow the LCOOL directions that Mansour has linked to.
