Today I installed a VAIS iPod interface, and took lots of photos for everyone to see. Thanks to previous posts showing similar installations, they really helped. Some more pics may help others taking their centre console apart.
The unit has great sound, much better than using the AUX input or FM transmitter, and steering wheel control buttons control the iPod connected.
Only took about 40 minutes to do the whole thing.
Removing Silver trim inserts, just squeeze them and lift:
Removing upper trim, used a paint scraper in a towel, lift upwards from the bottom once loose:
seat belt plug:
right side:
Hazard plug:
Top clips, hold unit in place when bolts are removed:
Lighter, clips hold this in place:
Bolts (4 to be removed 10mm), pull the console forward when bolts are removed to access the back of the unit:
Head unit with 12pin plug:
Head unit with 12pin plug inserted:

Cable routing, just went down to the floor:

Back together:
Unit on floor with iPod, now under passenger seat with only iPod plug visable:
