  • Let there be light!

well with the bar now installed i thought it looked a little bare.... so saturday was install day. unfortunately i didn't get to take photo's, we didn't start till 12 and had two sets of lights to install, and some lights and UHF bits and pieces to deinstall from a jeep.

    end result was the following

IPF 900xs the top, and narva 100's at the bottom. pretty happy with the whole look of it now!

    all on

then i went down the road for a few comparison shots (not the best clarity, resting on the dash of a running diesel gives it a bit of a blur!

    headlights

    high beam

    highbeam and new fog lights

    highbeam, fog lights and spotties

Nice, could you post some extremely detailed instructions on how to fit these. Its a mod i am planning to do in the near future.

      which bits? the narva's?

will be a while before i pull them out again, but sooner or later will put some LED's in there as they look a bit out of place with the top ones having been updated.....

there's no science to the foggies, smart person would have undone the bolts on the bash plates from either side, would give you heaps of space to move around behind the mounts and undoing and redoing the bolts would be simpler... , but the nuts on the back of a couple of them are pretty hard to get your hand on so we did it by squeezing our hands through from the top centre using a size 10 socket.

three bolts on the back of the black plastic, undo them and pull out the front piece. there's a metal backing that the actual indicator is attached to, it's not attached to the bar in any way, but the bolts that hold the front plastic on squeeze the two bits together so they don't move (not sure if that makes sense)

once out, undo the screws to remove the middle inserts, then we trimmed a bit of plastic so the lights could fit freely in there. dodgied up a bracket for each side using some offcuts of metal (was actually one of the support angles from those metal shelves you can pick up from bunnings for $20)

extend the wiring from the existing fog light connectors and plug and play then reassemble.

      simple hey?

I have posted some photos of the narva install in an earlier thread. You should be able to search it out. The photos show the brackets I bodged up for the back of the lights.

If you are going to do this (and it is indeed worthwhile), consider fitting HID kits to the Narvas at the same time. The difference is awesome. My rig has HID's in both of the Rallye 4000s, and in all four of the Narva 100's (located in the fog light recess of the arb Bar, and in the winch recess). The effect is simpy amazing...
        cheers, Tony

thanks tony, your install was where i got the idea from! (though it was a mate that actually worked out the best way for the brackets to work so the lights were stilll adjustable.

got piccies of all the HID's in action?

Yeah see, thats the bit i cant be arsed doing is dodgying up a bracket for them to mount to.

Maybe one day when i get some spare time i will fudge around with it or just get someone to buy the kit from arb...

is fairly simple but you do need to keep an eye on where the brackets go as they can cross paths with some of the bar beams behind the scenes and make your life difficult!

Nice work Matt, i think the narva's are heeps better value than the arb stuff.

                  McBain,
I will try to take some pics and post them here. The problem with such photos is that, although we compare them with other posted photos, unless they are all shot on precisely the same settings then the results are not really comparable. Any chance you can let me know what the settings were for your picture of the headlights, fogs and spotties posted above?

The Narvas located in the winch recess are primarily used for fog lights, and I deliberately set them low and got 3600Kelvin bulbs for that purpose. To wire them up, I smashed the bulbs out of the original fog lights, and used the bulb bases. After soldering new wires into those bases, I just plugged them into the OEM wiring, ran the new wires to the HID Ballast, and there was light.

To ensure that my light mounting brackets did not foul the steel "frame" that holds the assembly in to the back of the bar, I removed the assembly and the frame from the car, bolted the two pieces together on the workbench, and then made the brackets.

With the brackets I made (which were pretty easy to bodge together) there is just enough adjustability to get them angled off into the tabledrains (the Rallye 4000s well and truly take care of the road...).

When installing all of the HID's I cut the wires that came attached to the HID bulbs, and then rejoined them as required to make the install easier. Soldered or crimped and heat shrunk, and all has been good for 18 months or more.

the pictures of the light beam thrown out, taken from within the car, are all
                    Aperture F4
                    Shutter 2 seconds
                    ISO 100
no flash at 9:54pm not that the time will matter other than there was not much moon light.

the lights of the front of the car would be hard to mimic as the daylight varlies, but they were F4, 1/30th second, ISO100, no flash at 5:26pm
