Not sure which bit you mean?? I bought all the materials from BCF, except the wood (17mm ply), which i got from mitre 10. The loops and hooks came as a kit with 2 of each in them. They only had blue carpet in stock at the time and I'm too impatient to wait. Now i like it, so gunna make a set of drawers and fridge slide in blue as well. I have used mine a couple of times now when out fishing, very convenient. It also makes a great fold out bar !

Hi Chimba,

The trick is to screw through the plastic door lining and into the metal door frame behind it. That way the metal frame is holding the weight, not the plastic door lining. We use 32mm screws when mounting TrekTables. Provided you follow the instructions, you won't hit any wiring or other important bits.

So pleased to be amongst this forum and to find DIY gems such as this.

I (almost) finished my rear door table today thanks to the guidance and inspiration of this thread.

I don’t think more photos are necessary but I will post some of the details of my project.

My table is 800 x 500 to allow my fridge slide to fully extend.
I used 12mm ply that I had left over from another project. It just happened to be 800 wide
I carpeted both sides. Marine carpet was only $31 for a 2 x 1 metre length. The upholstery supplier also threw in the torneau buttons and bungy loops for free. (this will even out when I go to Bunning’s).
To measure to top piece of carpet I used the width of an off cut of ply and carpet as a template which I added all around to allow for the overhang. This allowed for a neat finish when I put on the carpet on the underside.
I used liquid nails to adhere the carpet to the ply and tacked the sides with nails, bending over the top 2-3 mm.
*tip* Be sure to cut the corners out of your carpet and I found 2 short snips into the carpet when doing rounded corners made for an easy overlap.
I used the nylon hinges but could have allowed for the hinge to overhang the end of the table a couple more mm.

I was traveling fine until it came to actually pre-drilling the holes into the rear door. I was a little tentative.

I used 8g 20 mm screws to attach the hinges and loops to the table.
8g 50 mm screws to attach hinges to the door.
8g 75 mm plasterboard screws to attach torneau buttons to door (had to buy a packet of 50)

Achieving the position and levels of the table was tricky as I was alone but a few props to support the table proved handy.

I am having some problems with the torneau button nearest the door handle. I’m not sure whether I’m just having trouble locating the pre drilled hole in the door frame or I am hitting the locking mechanism inside. Anyway the 75 mm screw seems to long for this part of the door and the 50 mm not long enough (you would think I would have a 60mm screw around the place. )

The job looks finished and is functional but I will have to properly secure that button / post tomorrow.

Hey I might just post some photos as I am taking some pride in my handy work and I have done some other (cheap......a little dodgy) mods that might provide some ideas for others.

thanks to joey and crammy i have done my table to but done it a little different time will tell if there is fatigue instead of drilling into door i took trim off and used s/steel i had laying about for backing plates figuring the weight the table would be supporting isnt extreme and would be only supporting weight for short periods at a time.ie road side stops for a brew and a bit of cake or lunch or more importantly holding your beer or six lol in the arvo after a day i have pics rig build up. Hi Guys,

I have all the components and I'm just about to put my table together as well.
I saw that 'four+two' did his without the marine carpet, just plain plywood. As the table will probably hold my gas burner and other kitchen stuff and knowing myself there is always a chance of spilling something on it. Marine carpet is pretty good stuff, but how about cleaning it when your beer spills over it or some oil/grease gets on it? Does anyone of you put some protection mat over the marine carpet? Downside of not having the marine carpet is the looks not matching my drawers, not having such a good grip on plywood (slippery) but then the chance of ruining the carpet ... I know its an offroad car so I should toughen up ... still any comments/ideas/experiences?

You could always leave the topside uncovered for cooking/cleaning and carpet the other side to match the rest of the interior....

Depends on how you look at it..
I can make more than $200 in the time it would take me to build this... So I'd rather just pay it and have it fitted in about 5 minutes.
But there is a nice feeling when you do things yourself.
