    • Gday All,

Finally started on the table this afternoon after getting back from 5 weeks at sea.. Armed with my Pradopoint printouts I hit BCF and Bunnings and roughly $400 later (I also bought the ply, piano hinges and carpet for my drawers) I made it home to get stuck into it..

I wanted to get the max size I could so the 1100mm x 500mm recommended previously in this thread is bang on.. I used the Kwik Grip tin to mark the rounded edges at the base..

Next came popping the trim off the rear door to mount the webbing straps - after removing the 3 x screws around the handle I started on the end closest to the hinges and slowly began hearing the satisfying pop of one of the plastic catches letting go without breaking.. The only victim was one of the catches on the upright trim pillar on the rear end (passenger side when closed).. These are a different type of clip and much harder to "pop" out..

I used a small fine nail to punch the hole in the steelwork to secure the webbing straps.. The webbing straps were also a bit of a pain in the clacker because the fibres would bind up on the screw as it rotated.. I pushed 2 x small holes in the webbing strap and melted the area slightly with lighter which stopped any further problems..

Currently its in the shed with the carpet drying so tomorrow i'll try and get it finished off with some more piccies..

Thanks to everyone for the input so far its inspirational and insightful stuff on PP..

      Cheers

      • Nice job so far 37south, coming along nicely by the sounds of it. A little issue I have come across recently, my table is also as big as i can get it and my drawers are the same. Unfortunately, the handle of the drawers leaves an imprint on the carpeted table so it actually pushes the door off the rubber ever so slightly. After a recent trip up the cape, i found a lot of dust in and around the rear door seal as it seemed to bounce a bit and let the dust in.

he's my effort from some years ago...

looking forward to your finished product.

        • Gday Again All,

Well got the time to finish off the table yesterday.. First time working with the old marine carpet so precisely and it sure pays to be patient

Very Happy with the results and its already been touted as the new baby change table instead of the mobile bar.. Gave the U-Bute a test run last night and next step is a LED light bar..

toddy - thanks for the insight I am working on my drawers as of today and have decided to not put handles on after your advice and a test fit.. I used Chippys measurements and it looks as though its going to be tight as it is..

Thanks again to all for their input..

          Cheers........ 37 SOUTH

Also fitted LED light above which is wired to interior light, makes great light for the workspace

Very satisfied with an overall cost of about $80

                  • Yeh nice work mypradogrande. Just how I would like to setup my table also with a working surface that can be wiped down.
How did you go with the edge where the carpet met the vinyl? Did you simply glue and overlap the carpet over the vinyl or use a staple gun? ( a close up of the edge showing this would be really handy.)

                    Cheers

Thank Craig, basically I just used the staple gun for the vinyl and wrapped it around the board, but first I cut the peice of carpet to the size of the board and put that on last with glue to hold the centre. I then ran around the edges of the board with the staple gun .. Heres some close up pics

I put carpet on the underside so that it would blend in when folded up and I got a composite board from Bunnings (nylon centre, aluminium on both sides) to put on the top so it could be wiped down easily. 12mm ply for the centre and then wrapped the edges with rubber strap from Clark Rubber. Couldn't get the exact width I wanted so after it was glued on I cut it to size with a sharp knife.
Removed the plastic from the door and all of the screws were run into bits of wood to give it a bit more strength, also the screws for the support straps were run into the steel of the door itself.

Bit of a combination of everybody elses ideas really. Thanks heaps guys!

I know it's an old thread but couldn't help saying thanks.
