  • Front push towbar for 120 series D4D

    Has anybody fitted a front push towbar to their D4D?I would appreciate any info on how this could be done.A full alloy bar is fitted already and must keep in mind the airbag sensors. I tow a caravan weighing about 2tonnes and need to park it in a fairly inaccessible area.any ideas would be appreciated.

    This would have to be done as a one off, custom job. I doubt it would be roadworthy in any state as you can't prove airbag compatability.

      Related.....(if it interests anyone) My Prado came with a front Tow plate and bar, designed to fit the winch recess in my ARB bar. I removed it immediately as I fitted a Warn winch. If any one is interested I can post a couple of pics.

        This is more common than you may think, but I doubt any major chain like arb, tjm would carry them. All the ones I have had I made myself or had a fab shop knock up.

        The easiest is to convert the the winch cradle, or you will need to have a support from both sides of the chassis. It needs to be tucked behind the standard approach angle otherwise you may come to an abrupt stop off road.

        Unless you have practice driving a forklift you may find steering a caravan from a front tow point difficult as the steering is reduced significantly by the central steering location.

        Another use is for a front tow bar is for recovery in desert or remote country (provided freespin is possible) where the broken vehicle is attached via a solid tow bar link at the front and rear (like a train). The broken vehicle is then towed and pushed. It is extremely effective.
