  • Better Sunvisors

Each morning on my way to work I'm getting drilled by the sun just managing to get the exact spot between the drivers side sunvisor and the rear vision mirror. It is very annoying. I've seen sunvisors with the pull out extensions for exactly that situation but I'm not sure if I could get one that would fit the Prado. With the GX I only got the absolute basic ones. Do the higher model Prado's have the sunvisors with the extensions? Seems the sunvisors aren't exactly a talked about feature. I'm hoping against hope for a basic swap over from the Toyota Parts dept or Fleabay. Otherwise It's geta 2n'd hand one any try my hand at modding it.

Iron-Paww, you're looking at this all wrong. There's nothing wrong with your car; it's where you live. If youlived the oter side of town, you wouldn't have the sun in your eye

Seriously a much cheaper alternative is a piece of material velcro'd to one visor. When the sun comes through, rip one end off & attach it to the other visor (that you have previously placed velcro on of course)

Geez! Sorry lads! Ain't been able to get back to the forum in a week!! I gotta reorganize my life I think..... :? :?

You want me to move house!!? So the sun is in a different spot when I drive to work!? Are you Crazy!!!??   You want to know the really annoying thing!! When I go home in the evening the sun is in the exact same spot at the right time of year. Geez I want to kill it!!

You know I like the velcro idea! I can just rip it off if it looks like 2 mangy giraffe's getting it on in the African savanna.

Yeah I was thinking a Toyo one would break the bank. I swear the parts dept guys all have Aston Martins out the back or something. I can't wait for my $500.00 Prado Jocks!

But lets just say I wanted to hand a finely chiseled limb over the spare parts counter. There must be a trendy Toyo make sunvisor that I could bolt in place of the old one? I dunno, like a spaceship Enterpr.... I mean Tarago one or something. Not that I'm a trendy latte sipper or anything.........

I am using a re-useable window tint product to cover the area behind the mirror between the two sun visors. It works a treat, I originally purchased it to black out my house windows in the lounge room so i can use my projector during the day for my home theatre. This stuff is not the normal window tint it is extremely dark and will not let artificial light through and cuts sunlight by around 95%. Easy to install just use some windex and a squeege.

            What the..... Change jobs!!

How about I do an Oogada Boogada Man sun-god ritual at dawn and simply command the sun to mind it's own business!

Or how about I construct a HUGE catapault siege engine in my backyard, put on an aerodynamic lycra outfit, and hurl myself to work each morning. If I aim it right, I should miss the high voltage power lines I pass under each day.

Or how about I win lotto and construct a bullet train line between my house and my work. I'll blank out all the windows, install a bar, employ buxom waitresses, and taunt the sun all the way to work.

Thanks Mav and Just*Managing for solutions I can actually use.

I mean Change jobs.... that's like saying..... ooohhhhh I've got a phlat tyre. Mumma mia! I'd better buy a new car to get another tyre off it!  Over the top!! Just a little....

                    Re: Better Sunvisors

Got it done on my old falcon actually, just asked the guys to put the same tint as a strip across the top of the inside of th windscreen same height as the visors pulled down. Worked a treat, gonna ask the same of the guys in a couple of weeks for the fourbie this week on break.

                      Re: Better Sunvisors

A temporay fix is to use some race tape across the top on the external side of the window - cheap and can be changed to suit variying severity. For external mirrors I'd suggest insulation tape

Often see the rally crews competing over here in WA doing this to give them 1/2 chance of seeing the trees/roos esp now we run dusk/night stages. Doing 140 kmph+ into the sun isn't fun

Too many projects so little time and even less money
