  • How to remove rear panel?

I tried the Search funktion, but I could not find an answer on how to remove the rear side panels in the cargo bay. Are there only clips? The car has no 3rd seat row.

There is plenty of space behind the right panel. Did somebody ever install a compressor there? The german Prado's do not have any room left in the motor bay, so I search for an alternative location. The only problem may be heat.

Plenty of room behind the front bumper area. or underneath. Use the new ARB mini & waterproof compressor.

I already have the Viair (Bushranger) and it doesn't like water too much

On the Australian models there is the rear air con fan behind that panel and also the air con ducting which leaves no room for anything. Perhaps yours does not have that.

This panel does clip on but is held there also with the rear scuff plate, the passenger door seal and the passenger inside step which all must be removed. Also the seat belt and cup holder have to be removed. I can only pry it open so far before I have to disconnect the air con stuff to remove it fully.

For me it took ages, and I took no photos, sorry.

          Hi Plucker,

on the european models there is plenty of room there, no air con fan.

I pried it open on the top to have a look, it's indeed only fixed with clips and one screw. But for a compressor it may not be ideal, as they generate a lot of heat. But some creative mind could cut a door into the panel for easier access.

I think I found an alternative spot for the Viair in the engine bay (but very tight).

Today i have removed the rear drivers side interior side panel, it was a piece of cake i did not have to play with any of the rear air conditioning duct work or fan box either. I had to remove the floor carpet to get 2 screws out i had to remove the seat belt bolts and the third row seat mount 2 bolts 14mm socket. Really it took 10 minutes. I can email you some photos (i am not the best at putting photos up it takes too long even with broadband) The step next to the second row also had to be removed 2 bolts 10mm socket. I removed the panel to finally finish the wiring to the roof through to the solar cell also fitting socket for fridge. Everything so far has been bodged temporarily. Hope this helps you. I had left it cos i thought it was a bigger job and i would get round to it one day.
            cheers

I went to take some photos today but the bloody batteries was flat so we went to the pub whilst they charged and well its now too dark. I will take some photos tomorrow morning and email them to you. If you could post them it would be much appreciated i can then write an essay. chippy will mark accordingly.
hey for those legends over here in the west the jarrahdale pub does a blood y good lunch, but its even better if you leave the cook at home. We made the mistake of taking the cooks and ankle biters.
                Cheers

Removed my rear panel also and fitted the suspension compressor in behind there. Heaps of room because I do not have the rear air con setup. Piece of cake to do and as long as you take it easy and do not force anything it'll be sweet. Steve & Sandra's pics tell the whole story as I did not take any pics as I was too involved in dismantling that I forgot. ops:

for those that wish to know whats behind the panel, there it is lots of plastic and wires. Its a piece of cake to remove basically the rear strip along the floor by popping the clips out with a flat blade screwdriver and then remove the phillips screws. Remove the step 2nd row seats held in with 2 bolts and lift the scuff plate. remove the seatbelts 14mm socket/spanner. remove the seat retaining thingy 2 bolts under the plastic flap thing. Lift the carpet and remove the two phillips screws. The trim then pulls out just like that. next time i might take some photos as i go and then write some words might make it a bit more chippy style. With the trim removed i have run some cables through. There is plenty of room. Hope this has helped some of you. I am like a bull in a china shop i just get in a pull things out usually i break things but this time i didnt. Toyotas seem to come apart quite well. I have run power down for another fridge socket and i also have run the supply to both batteries from the solar call which comes in the back from upstairs. Whilst it was oout i also run a heavy duty 5 core cable for future toys voltmeters etc etc.
                          cheers
