Fridge Slide

I would be interested if anyone has bought just the fridge slides like those from EBAY, as in just the two steel roller brackets valued at about $60 to $100. I was weighing up buying a set but am ever dubious about quality. I see a genuine slide (for my 60 litre Engel) is ball park $290 to $350. I was thing about buying 800-900mm slides (x2) and fabricating the rest (base plate, tie downs, etc.). Has anyone gone down this road?

Yep, had those rollers in my old Patrol. Solid as. They are commercial drawer slides and the ones I had were 800mm and could cope with 100kg.

That is the way I went and they have been in for about a year now and are holding up very well. Mind you I dont use the drawer all the time.
From memory, which can get fuzzy this time of year :shock: , I think I used the 800mm ones as they were the only ones available at the time although looking back for me the 900mm ones would have been too long.
Quality is good and up my way the price is comparable. Heavy duty drawer slides can be extremely difficult to find if you dont live in a Capital city. :wink:

Searched but could not locate anything about homemade fridge slides etc.

I have been thinking about buying/making a fridge slide for a 40l engel. I don't have a drawer system and wont be getting one in the near future as strollers are too big to fit in the back with drawers as well.

The engel slide one probably gets the chocolates as a bought one ($250+/-) but then I would have to make a bracket to bolt it to the floor using existing holes. If I have to make this, I might as well make one myself.

I have looked at slides from Galvins (Hardware/specialist cupboard/kitchen etc place) here in Adelaide, they are about $100 to $125 for the 100kgs slides.

I was thinking about a visit to the wreckers and checking out car seat slides. I figure the weight issue would be okay; they will sit up a bit more than the commercial slide but that is okay. Commodore one probably slide the most distance by memory but I have not yet checked if they will slide enough, I will need at least 500mm of slide to have the fridge far enough out to lift the top.

Any thoughts

Have you considered a piece of ply bolted to the floor where the seatbelts are mounted. You would only need a few bolts to fit after removing the rear seats and could mount your engel fridge slide on that.
The ply and bolts should give you change out of a fast $50, but the fridge slide would cost a bit.
