      Re: SA Automotive Engineers

Might have to give Doug a try as two of the others have been hopeless. One failed to show up on time at his offices two days running and the other can't be bothered returning phone calls and emails. I guess they just aren't interested in small jobs.

      Cheers

Out of curiosity, what mods are people doing that require a engineers certificate?
          Suspension? :?:

Tyres that go over SA's 15mm increase rule (265/70/17 plus sizes)

              Re: SA Automotive Engineers

              Thanks Mick,
              Found the code here: http://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/...999.236.UN.PDF

So, a standard tyre of 265/65 makes the sidewall around 172.25mm, and a 270/70 is around 185.50mm, a difference of 13.25mm or 26.5mm for a tyre.. Is that correct?

Does a OME spring and shocker upgrade warrant a trip to the engineers?

              Code re tyre legislation below:

              Code:
Despite the requirements of any other regulation or rule under the Act, a motor vehicle
that is required to comply with ADR 24 or the tyre and rim selection requirements of
              ADR 42 may be—
              (a) equipped with tyres other than those listed on the tyre placard fitted to the
              vehicle, provided that— ....
              ....
(ii) the overall diameter of a wheel and tyre fitted is not more than
15 millimetres greater than that advised in the Tyre and Rim
Standards Manual (issued by the Tyre and Rim Association of
Australia) for the largest tyre size listed on the placard and not more
than 15 millimetres less than that advised in the Manual for the
smallest tyre size listed on the placard....

Correct... so a 265/70/17 technically requires an engineers certificate in SA

Does a OME spring and shocker upgrade warrant a trip to the engineers?
No... lifts up to 50mm over the factory ride height are allowed without an engineers approval.

                  Re: SA Automotive Engineers

thanks, what $$ do they charge for this (assuming its just to certify the tyres)? How involved is the process?

I'll leave TP to confirm (as I have not had my tyres engineered) but I think it's around $300 and includes inspection of the vehicle, engineers report and vehicle modifiction plate.

                          Re: SA Automotive Engineers

I was speaking to Peter Young who runs Alltrak 4WD on South Road last night and asked him about engineers and who he recommends and he mentioned Doug Potts, the same fella who did the engineering work for Team Piggy. Just did a search on the net and found an updated list of Engineers who have been recognised by the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure here in South Australia. A few names have changed since Mick posted his from above:
