  • Relocate AUX input from glovebox

    Hi Guys,
not sure if this should be in Electrical, but it is a mod...
Has anyone tried to relocate the AUX input for a Grande from the glovebox to a more "friendly" location?
The cable I have for my ipod is just a bit too short for the plug to be in the glove box and the ipod to be on the seat or console... a real pain when you want to change tracks cause you can't from the stereo controls.

I was thinking of putting it into one of the blanks down under the ashtray (near the 12v adapter). Shouldn't be too big a deal, but just wondered if anyone had done it and any gotchas to watch out for.

    Cheers,
    Flyby.

OK Guys... no tips or gotchas, so I thought I'd give it a crack.
No biggie really, but I know how you guys love pics, so here's the lowdown...

Undid the dash/glovebox as explained in other posts...and located the AUX input.
    Here's the hiding bugger here...

    Removed the glovbox...

Here's the other side of the AUX plug...

You need to remove the wiring loom here before you pull out the plug from the glovebox... simply squeeze the white clip and pull

Removed from the glovebox... jiggle it a bit, and it pops right out

Here's where it's going... ran the wires down the console next to the passenger air vent.
Needed to file inside the hole a bit to make it fit.

Finished product... used the plate from inside the glovebox

Now the ipod can sit on the seat, the console or in a mount and have the cables reach the 12v plug AND the AUX input

Now all I gotta do is convince "Little Miss" to stop asking for the Wiggles :?
Any advice on this one would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Cheers,
    flyby...

that's a fair crack at it flyby
those spare switch blocks are great for locations for jobs like these
when I read the 1st post I had no idea what you were talking about, not having a Grande myself

others have also used these blocks to pop in connections for their UHF mics (remote type with vol/chl changing in it) so that everything else is hidden under the dash or where ever -- something I have yet to do
Some hav even used them for installing switches to control LCD headrests for the backseat occupants

        cheers and well done
