  • Simply CANNOT wait the 3 days.

I simply CANNOT wait the 3 days it's going to take On Track 4x4 Centre to do my custom bash plate and slider/steps...

My Benevolent Fathier-In-Law (BFIL) is taking our Prado and our soon-to-be-delivered new camper trailer out to Birdsville for the races and said to my wife and I about the car: "Straighten those step treads out or get a new set. And don't muck about, get what you want. I don't care how much it's costing."

With really bent side steps, there was no way we were going to bother putting alfoil ones back on, they'd be bent by the time BFIL got back from Big Red. We went all over the place (TJMs, Scorpion Off Road, ARBs) and nowhere would do us anything that would remotely suit our detailed spec: I want to protect the sill from damage but need a step so that my wife can get into the lifted (by 2") Prado, especially in a straight skirt. So, we went down to Moss St, Slacks Creek to look at our soon-to-be-delivered new camper trailer, again thanks to Benevolent Father-In-Law, and saw their comp trucks sitting out on the street and said: "You know, that's about what we want..." We had some dicsussion with them that afternoon and they showed us a mock up of what they make (which was fantastic because, until that point, I'd been struggling to even describe what I wanted to both my wife and BFIL).

Don't get me wrong, they are going to cost. And dearly. But BFIL will get out and back SAFELY also thanks to the new bash plate, extended forward and up slightly to protect the radiator and condensor from damage. Those two have already been replaced after being slammed down on a rock 12 months ago and the bash plate looked more like a Twistie...

AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE, I will take some photos and let you know costings, if I ever find out (there have been a number of items that have arrived without me finding out cost...Like our UHF radio, which got replaced due to the other one being broken and not outputting. And the brake controller for the new CT. I only got phoned each time to tell them which model I wanted. I wasn't told price.)

So, yes, Santa has struck again and I've got my truck back with no idea of cost... The receipt is here, in our filing cabinet (in the Prado file), but it's in a sealed envelope. I mean, I can unseal the envelope at any stage but that's not the point, really. I have been told that the bash plate and the steps - which have come back to me more sturdy side steps than full on, angry rock sliders (more what I set out for in the first place) - in the sub $2500 range and it look schmick.

I've had significant tooth pain, and it took 24 more hours than planned because the paint refused to dry in the wet weather Brisbane had during the week, so I'll endeavour to get some photos of them over the weekend.

While I'm typing this, I've got to be at BFIL/Santa's place early for a breakfast thing, we may take the Prado so that we can put it up on BFIL/Santa's significantly over engineered car ramps to take photos.
