Can we start a droop measurement sticky?
G'day everyone,
Fantastic to see the suspension database and suspension measurements threads.
I'm hoping we can put together a combination of these two threads which include droop measurements together with shock/spring/(spacer) and lift (bottom of rim to fender) measurements.
This type of thread will be immensely valuable in assisting everyone in achieving optimal droop and lift combinations, including what is mechanically safe and legal.

Nitpicking here but Ive been speaking to Downsouth motor sports about the 5100 and 5160 for the rear, and I was quoted these measurements:
14.8’ = 375.92mm
24.8’ 599.44mm (5160)
5100 was the same as the database120 GXL, D4D Auto 2007 - ARB Deluxe Bar, Warn Tabor 10K and Rec Kit, Safari Snorkel, GME UHF, BFG AT's, Lightforce Spots, Eclipse Sat Nav, Waeco CF40, Optima D27, Redarc Sbi12, Leigh W Diode, Voltmeters, Rhino Pioneer platform, ARB compressor, DIY Trek Table & drawers, HiLux Jets, Breathers, Water pump, rear custom fused electrical system, camp lights, LED's, ARB Roof top tent Annex and Awning, Maxtrax, Hi-Lift, Shovel. Hi Peter,
Just a bit of book keeping for the database.
I think the ZC7325 Ridepro rear coil free height should be 420mm, as it should be the same as the C59-325.
I found from King Springs that the KTPR102 progressive coil has a 190-320lb/in range.
I'd also be interested to see the CalOffroad monotube Bilsteins in the database, 24-218528 front and 24-228602 rear.
I'm still waiting to get closed/open lengths from CalOffroad, as I couldn't easily find these codes in the Bilstein catalogue (2012/13). I'm suspicious these are just Hilux struts/shocks with longer closed length than the Prado.

Hi Peter.
Some more book keeping for the database. The advertised lengths of 420-563mm for the Koni RAID 88-1712 are not correct. I measure 431-548mm ring eye centre to shaft flange where first bush washer sits. I've also had a dealer in another city double check and they verify same measurements.
The real open length of the 88-1712 is very short at 548mm, and will give minimal droop in lifted Prados, so I'd be interested to hear droop measurements from any users running this strut in a lifted front end. Topping out would also be a concern.

Hey Andrew,
My mate purchased the 88-1712 as it was advertised 420-563mm, very good lengths for the front end. He also purchased an 80 series 88-1689 for the rear, which is advertised as 369-612mm, but I haven't had a chance to double check on it yet.
We're both very disappointed, as there's no simple fix using Koni HT for the front. The 82-2522 is 430-555mm, and can be made with the shaft an extra 5mm longer, but this blows the closed length out further as well, reducing bump travel.
No easy fix.
I'd really like to hear from some users with Koni struts if they've been experiencing top-outs on hard cornering/roundabouts/speedbumps etc. I get this happening all the time on my bilstein 712 struts with open length 553mm, from day one at 2" lift (50mm droop), to 4 years later sagged to 1" (75mm droop), they still top out.
If I can get topping out regularly at 553mm open length with 75mm droop, then I'm 100% positive the 88-1712's will easily top-out at 548mm open length.
I think the droop on a 548mm strut will be around 60mm at 1" lift, and much worse at 2", possibly less than 40mm. The extra weight of a bullbar will improve the droop, and be giving the false impression that the droop is good enough at say 50mm.
However, if you're using the 88-1712 as an OEM strut replacement and keeping factory ride height, you will get great droop, maybe around 90mm.
Hopefully some Koni users will read this and can check their droop and ride height.

Hey,
Some closed-open lengths from CalOffroad for their new range of monotube Bilsteins.
Front: 24-228602
433-555mm
433-575mm
433-595mm
Rear: 24-218528
380-590mm
380-620mm
368-580mm
I'm not sure if those codes correspond to each different length? These numbers were quoted over the phone, and after my experience with the 88-1712 Koni, I'd like to see a photo of these with a ruler beside them. These lengths can always be edited later if necessary.

Hey,
Considering the similarities for FJ's and differences for coil seat position on Hiluxes, can we put closed-open OEM factory lengths for FJ Cruiser and Hilux in the database.
Many users are running longer closed length (eg. 433mm) Hilux/150 series struts in Prado 120 IFS, which can bump out.

Hey all,
New rear coil from Dobinsons, C59-487, free height 430mm, 280lb/in spring rate.
This coil has been designed to sit 1" higher than a C59-327. It is ideally suited for touring with a heavily loaded rear.
This coil is also at the engineering design limits for a linear coil.
It should fill the gap nicely between C59-327 and C59-443V, and should give a 3" ride height without the need for coil spacers.

Thankx, they didnt even tell me that yet.
Ordered 2 sets last week.
I use them a lot, they sit nice on a 120, genuine 50mm lift, with fuel full, drawer, fridge, Roofrack, awning, shovel, cargo barrier.
All this stuff often stays there, & it can steal 20mm of your lift, this is why I do it rather than go to a 329.
420mm sit well also.
410mm doesn't allow for much weight to keep 50mm.
If you loose all your weight, strip out the rear & the roof you do have 3" so be aware of this.
