Also on the 120 standard front struts it says they are 545mm full extension (you use word open)
They are in fact 540mm full extension.

From memory the 2005+ hiluxes are 550mm.

Another note: the Hilux spring seat is in a different position to the Prado ones, so don't just think you get extra travel and chuck on the same spring.

      Hope that helps

Actually, many aftermarket front springs are common between the 120 series Prado and the 2005+ Hilux. The main difference is, as you say, the Hilux strut has a spring seat 15-20mm higher than the Prado due to different suspension geometry. So using a "Hilux" front spring will not give you any more lift, because they are often the same spec as the "Prado" spring.

I've also just re-measured my old OE front struts and found them to be 545mm extended. They gave me a total downward suspension travel of 845mm when they were fitted. According to Lovells, my current front strut is 570mm extended and when measured gives me a total downward suspension travel of 895mm. As I would expect, a 25mm longer strut results in 50mm more downward suspension travel. This confirms to me that the OE strut is in fact 545mm extended

I measured the OE spring seat to be 213mm from the centre of the lower bush. This is at the lowest part of the top of the spring seat where the end of the spring sits.

Weird, we have always known them to be 540mm.
              I also measured 4 from 2 different 120's they are still 540mm
From the base of the top pin to the centre of the bottom hole.
I rang a mate, he measured his in his workshop without me saying anything he came back with 540mm.

So you either measure differently or something is wrong with those struts??

                Hey guys,

do all 80 sereis shocks fir the 120 prado? I have access to cheap EFS shocks. I am keen to get trhe most flex out of the rear. will extended sway bar link pins, and 80 series STD length shocks provide this? Just as OME nitro sport would?

                Cheers and appreciate all help!

The text you have quoted is talking about front struts, they are completely differnt on the 80 series compared to the 120, so front 80 series shocks wont fit.

As for the the EFS rear shocks, you will need to check the body diamiter of the shock, I recall some of the 80 series big bore shocks wont fit due to phyical diameter. As for them giving you maximum flex, thats hard to answer. Yes extended sway bar links will help flex in most cases, but you will need to find the open and closed specs of the shocks you are looking at. Whether they suit will depend on what springs you have fitted and the amount of lift you have, no good having heaps of flex if the spring is too short and falls out. Likewise if they dont close enough you will bottom out the shock and wreck it if you don't extend bumpstops.

I know that doesn't answer your question, you might just need to get the shock specs and get the tape measure out and see how much flex you can acheive with shocks and sway bar removed, do the maths and compare that to the shock in question. Thats how I settled on the OME N71E 80 series shocks I run, they had the optimum open and closed measurements for my suspension set up.

                  Cheers Andrew

The specs for OME 894 are decidedly absent....??

I'm not aware of an OME 894 rear spring, I guess that would be a standard height spring. There are quite a few rear springs missing from the database, my research there was not exhaustive. To be honest, rear spring data isn't high on the priority list if you drive a Grande

If anyone has information on the OME 894 or any other spring or shock not already in the database please...

                        • Interesting, the OME 894 is also mentioned in an FJ forum, but with no specs: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...ion-guide.html

OME never mentioned them to me when I made my enquiries and given the age of the posts, it is possible they may be discontinued.

I did measure differently, the lazy way by making a rough measurement on an assembled strut because I couldn't be bothered dismantling them

I actually dismantled one of my old TEMS struts today and re-measured them accurately on the bench and found that you are 100% correct. The extended length is indeed 540mm. I also measured the compressed length to be 420mm. Unless I get different information, for simplicity I will assume that the non TEMS strut is the same length and have now updated the database accordingly. Thanks for your input, ####
