  • which spring?

    hi,
i am looking in to getting lift, im having a bit of trouble deciding what brand to get, i have found all sorts on ebay and in shops, a mate of mine told me that ironman have something like a 60% failure rate on them. how would king springs compare to toughdog or even a store brand like pedders? id rather spend the extra bit and have a kit that wont crap out on me half way through a trail
    Steve,
2004 GXL 4L V6 4SP Auto, stock bullbar, GME TX3200... more to come.

hey mater, you have to ask yourself what are you going to do with the vehicle in reguards to acessories you want to put on your vehicle, do you intend to put in dual batteries, a steel bullbar and a winch, or a set of drawers and a fridge in the back, or do you just want a lift and still have a comy ride, are you going to tow a van or camper or just going to load it up with gear. When you know your answer this will allow you to decide on what you want to suit your requirements, ie you dont want to have bought the wrong rate spring (medium instead of heavy duty) or vice verser which will mean you might have to outlay more money then you want to. cheers samo
ps I have had a set of ironman springs on for over 100000k and have had no problems at all, as well as a set of rear shocks, still going good.
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

So long as you get the shocker selection right as they are the bulk of the cost.
In my situation at the moment, i will fit a comfort spring as i do not have a heap of weight in the car. And realistically the bulk of our driving is still metro. If and when the need arises as 'things' get added to the car, then it is not a lot of cash to change up to HD springs or whack in some airbags.
From things i have read on this forum is if your Prado gets lifted too high there are other issues to deal with like cv's and positioning of the diff. IMO HD springs will lift the car too high if there isn't enough weight.
But before i start getting shot down by some people, i know there are some that say there is no such thing as a lift being too high
Our 6 year old and 3 year old try their hardest to make sure there is no time or money for the other baby

I had a 2 inch lift in my prado but after being involved in an accident i would never lift again , due to the way the car handled and almost rolled , standard height for me from now on lol
