  • Front springs for Grande

I have been reading up on the forum that most people that have done a front spring upgrade have used king springs (#KTFR101).I have a 2004 V6 Grande and would like to lift the front end by changing the front springs and still keeping the original front shocks in place. Now have seen that there have been a few people on the forum that have done this and they have not had any issue with the shocks. But in all cases I have seen the Prado has had a bull bar, duel battery setup and in some a winch installed. Now I don’t have any modification to my Prado so no extra weight in the front. This concerns me, will this not then cause the shock to fail? As I have no extra weight to compress the new spring and think this may well cause a problem on the standard shocks.
    Cheers.

I have pretty much nothing on the front except for a TJM nudge bar. I used OME 884 and retained the original shocks with no detrimental effect. I gained 40mm lift doing so.

      Hi Guys

A quick question, I thought that you would have to replace the shocks as well as the original shocks would not alow the spring to reach full strech and then you would be placing the shocks under stress?

      thoughts?

You won't need to replace the shocks as long as you maintain about 60mm droop.

Thanks amts, do you think there is any difference between the OME and the King springs, as I have just got the king springs? Did you fit them yourself?
          Cheers.

            The differences are outlined here
            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...e&daysprune=-1
Going by those specs, the OME884 is longer by 15mm than the KTFR101 and therefore, the OME is ahead in terms of preload by an extra 158kg per spring. So even though the OME's spring rate is less, the fact that it is longer means that it will carry more to maintin the same lift but still be a 'comfortable' spring.

We had a tech day and upgraded the suspension on 2 Prados
