Darren is that after the springs have settled down? Just picked up my 120, well it arrived at work, at it looks a little nose up with the front at 810 average. Not sure what pressure is in the polyairs and it does have 4 rims and the old broken suspension in the back.

Nope, my measurements were from fitting. I aim at having things checked again next week.

PLEASE Check your Toughdog struts!

Bit of an update and a warning for those of you who also have Toughdog suspensions. Please check the front strut welds.

No batch or serial number that I could see however I am absolutely horrified at how little weld is connecting the pieces together and how poor the welding is as well. As a mechanical engineer I can tell you there is no way I would sign off on this. I put more weld on suspension parts when I made up a billy cart for the kids let alone 2.6t of 4WD!!!



As you can see very little weld holding the strut to the ball joint. Scary. Really really scary. By comparison the OME struts have at least a 4mm fillet all round, the Toughdog ranges between 1.5mm and 3mm. And don't mention the inclusions.

and both dust caps connectors were cracked and broken off and rubbing on the shock body.

All I can say is we were extremely lucky. I intend contacting the importer. I have no expectations of any support just feel I need to let them know.

And sadly I cocked up with the new OME suspension. After tooing and froing and Andrew and Darren's input I got the right front springs but the rears are too soft so I am up for a spring changeout. Ah well an expensive lession all round.

MJ, r normally pretty good and will probably swap the springs at the first check of not happy.

Hutch, I am ok to sort it out too it was my cock up, well the installer's cock up. Can't think why they have gone bust! My paperwork states that the rear springs are TDC975 which is the medium spring so I went for the equivalent OME spring which is the 895 but actually I have TDC975H. The OME 895 and Toguhdog TDC975 are exactly the same length and rate so I just measured mine and the wire diameter is about 0.3mm larger on the Toughdogs so 896s are going in and I will get my ride height back. If I wasn't lazy I would swap them out myself and put the Toughdogs back in, I trust the springs. I know the installer will look after me so I will get OME all round and when I sell the 120 next year ish the suspension will be still very fresh.

If anyone wants the Toughdog springs they will be at my place for about a week and then to the dumpppppppppppppppppppppp.

Hi folks, the info in this thread was a huge help in selecting my suspension upgrade, so here's my numbers:
2008 D4D 120 with 95k on the clock. Alloy bar and dual battery up front, nothing down back.
Went with (front) OME 884 springs + N140S struts, (rear) 895 springs + N141 shocks.
Before: (front) 735, (rear) 780. After: (front) 785, (rear) 835.
Very happy with the lift and ride quality.. no sag so far after 1000km and some decent 4wd'ing.

Those are nice numbers mybo. If my 895s gave that lift in the rear I would be happy but sitting empty and 10psi in the polyairs supporting less than half a reserve tank mine measures 815 at best. Ah we'll new springs tomorrow. My 885s up front are sitting at 810. So it is still bum down by 15mm.

I was struggling to decide between 895s and 896s in the rear as I generally load up pretty heavy for trips away but in the end I decided to take the more comfy ride as its a daily driver.. the ride is way smoother than I thought it was gonna be, and now I reckon the 896s would have been fine for me even unladen, so I'm sure they'll work out well for you. I'll be checking how much mine sags when next fully loaded up

OK just fitted the 896s and 835 at the rear now with 4psi in the polyairs and full tanks. Happy person. Minor issue with my polyairs I need to sort out though, one of the hose clamps has corroded and needs replacing. Have to source one and chuck it on.

Glad you're happy with the setup... How much weight do you have in the rear? Do you find the 896 a much harder ride compared to the 895? Also, which shocks are you running?

Same shocks as you I think, need to check. Ride is pretty much the same. As to weight nothing. I have a fridge in there and one seat out virtually full time and the other seat out most of the time. The fridge weighs less than the 2 seats which is why I am surpised about needing to the heavier springs. No roof rack unless we go away.

Fair enough MJ, you got me thinking now and I realised my measurements above are with pretty much empty tanks and no third row seats in...
Just measured again with pretty much full tanks and the seats and I'm back to just under 820mm (which is about right for 260lb/in spring rate of the 895s). Looks like I'll have to keep an eye on things when I load up :|

Matt, your wish is...... just a wish. Here is a quicky, will post a daylight shot over the weekend.



The rule is just over the 1m mark at the bottom of the guard where it is sitting and about 160 at the rim. I am running 275/65 17s BFG A/Ts so a bit bigger in diameter than the OEM Grandmistakes.

mybo give some thought to polyairs or the other brands out there. Very useful for occasional loads. By the way I sent an email to Polyair using contact us on the webpage explaining my situation and asking if I could buy a couple of the clips, had a response this afternoon two are in the mail!

The change out cost me fitting only so I cannot complain about that since it was my fault the 895s were fitted.

Had a longer drive this afternoon and it felt ok but a bit ponderous but then I spent nearly 6 hours in the Clubbie yesterday and my bicycle would feel topsy turvy. Mrs took the 120 for a run (it is aferall hers) and pronounced it fine.

PS: Resizing 36MP to 0.5MP in Photoshop is a little scary, where did the photo go? Oh there it is...
