Okay. I've bitten the bullet and booked the wife's Prado in for an OME suspension upgrade on 15 May 2009.
She's going to get the following set-up:
FRONT: 883 coils with 90000 struts
REAR: 896 coils with 60005 shocks plus 661 stone guards
Why 15 May 2009? Because it is our wedding anniversary. How considerate am I? A gift that will keep on giving. Of course, I am doing this for the wife's comfort, improved handling on her car and better safety for the family. Of course, I am only thinking of her and her car.
I just hope she's going to get me something just as good. 8)

Funny thing NTPRYCE, I can't seem to find an Anniversary list that includes suspension upgrades for any particular years of marriage?
Might have to try another angle with my Dearest Wife.

As an aside, I have requested data that compared the old and new products. I was told ARB have a 6 page report with graphs that compares them. That should arrive by snail-mail very soon.
LFaR.
Clearly, I was expecting too much... the info posted out to me by snail mail was in fact just a hard copy of the info in that 8+MB PDF. It's very heavy on the marketing hype and has just one slightly useful graph, which compares the old and new products passing over a bump.
Graph 2 is interesting, except it is compared against an unnamed competitor
I was hoping to see info on resistance to fade and more.
The researchers *must* have this type of detailed info, but it is hidden behind the marketing hype. I hope to extract some of it, somehow. How else can anyone make a data-driven decision. It seems word-of-mouth is king in this space.
Anyway, I haven't given up on this little quest.

PS: I'm after similar data for the Bilstein setup. Lots of hype and superaltives, just very little hard-data that I've found.

Ahh the last of the romantics. You really are selfless.
If she complains tell her it was suspension or a new iron

Keep at it!
What you need is independant testing. Someone with a shock dyno, and a handful of PP'ers willing to have one or two of their shocks pulled off the car and tested on said dyno.
These aren't horribly rare gadgets. Assassinoffroad has said he uses one, there would be a few about. Just needs a friendly operator and enough interest to make it happen.
After many email exchanges with ARB's Marketing Manager and talking at length with ARB's Nitrocharger Sports product manager, I learned a lot more than is contained in their brochures. He explained at length about the internal changes to this shock that make it much more resistant to fade and performance loss, compared to the previous model - that addressed two of my main concerns. We also spoke about its ability to provide a comfortable (i.e. not harsh) ride when travelling at relatively low speeds over bumps and how the ride-engineers achieved this without compromising the performance required in 4WD situations. He went on to discuss a new and unique flip valve (?) which aids the oil flow under different situations; if I recall correctly, this helped to keep the operating temperature considerably lower than the previous model. On and on we went... There was a lot more detail, but at some point I became sold.
In the end, despite my best efforts, I still could not get my hands on any data. In fact, I was told they never release the level of detail that I was requesting, since there are too many factors that affect it. This has been a consistent story from other shock manufacturers also.
OK, so the only info to base this decision on is: price, marketing, hype, opinion, servicing, reputation, etc.
Overall, for me the deciding factors came down to: price, servicing and reputation. I believe much of their hype and marketing - at least it has a solid technical basis. I was also very impressed with the willingness of Matt and Syd to afford me so much of their time.
So, the proof will be in the pudding, and you can bet I'll be paying a lot of attention to this little upgrade. Then I will be just one more opinion in the ocean of views.
I'm booked-in toward the end of May; I can barely stand to wait so long.

I know what it's like. I got mine back from Doctor ARB today and I'm pleased as. In terms of lift I'm impressed but other kits can giver more height.
The ARB measurements are:
Before Front 735/734
Before Rear 779/780
After Front 790/789
After Rear 844/843
I'm happy so far but I've only driven about 10kms on it. SWMBO had to go out tonight to an AGM so I told her to take the Prado. I suspect she will be upset only because it seems so high and she also expected the new tyres to be as quite as Grandcraps.

I'm not concerned about the lfit... the trade-off with keeping all 4 wheels on the ground longer is fine with me. I once heard that lift is just a side-effect of a suspension upgrade; in time, I became a believer in that mantra too.
All good. Her comment was "I will just have to get used to it".
I wont update any more detail about my thoughts until after Mothersday. I'm away on a Cubs camp this weekend without Prado so will have to wait until the following weekend (Mothers Day I believe) to test things out. What a Mothers Day present
I'll try and post some pics tonight (and take some tonight). It was getting dark and had family things to do when we got home and dark when I left for work this morning.
I had this fitted at Regency. In the list of gear they supplied they actaully "forgot" to pack a number of items. I also bought a set of IPF Spotties but i cant stand the crappy lokking mouse switch so I opted to buy a proper ARB switch to match the compressor. This wasn't packed but I've paid for it. They know about this so will get this sorted today maybe. Wont be fitting the lights until next weekend

hey mate, who did you discuss the suspension with? or is it a typo?
i wouldn't go for the 883's on the front with the 896's on the back. i would go at least 884's on the front. i will be going 884's front and 895's in the back. this will level my prado right out, and i don't have near as much gear compared to you.
let me know, or give me a call at work 8947 2262.
