  • Pre Loaded front struts.

We are heading off this weekend on the Anne Beadell Highway from Coober Pedy to Laverton in WA.
1300Km long and a LOT OF CORRUGATIONS.
It is recommended to take spare shocks and luckily I retained my old ones when I had an EFS lift done.
I do not expect to have a problem with the EFS although it has done a fair bit of off road.
Better safe than sorry but how do you replace a front shock in the bush without a lot of work!!
I bought a pair of strut tops of the internet for $140- (CMI toyota wanted $140- each!)
They came with spring and shock rubber bushes.
Took them to the local 4x4 shop and they compressed the spings and fitted the tops for a few beers.

If I do a front shock it is just a matter of removing the strut on putting in the pre loaded one (hopefully)
The top must be aligned properly with the spring and the base of the shock.

Just hope the I don't need it

Good idea Nick. Make sure you do a trial swap over on both sides so that you know that they will come off without a fight and you know which bits to take off. Remember to only tighten the lower mount bolt when the tyre hits the ground.
