Mate I'm gearing up for a trip next year and having the same issue's with weighing up costs with setting up the rig.

I'm heading in to the 4wd shop tomorrow to try and sort out what i need for the rear.

Mine is just stock at the moment, Would yours be any benefit to my rig ? I was probably looking at rear air bags to help me out.

Towed my van back last week and my headlights were pointing up to the stars :O

    cheers

What are you fitted out with? If you have an alloy bar or dual batteries the front springs will get you to around 790mm. If you have a winch you will need stiffer springs. The rear is ok unless you have heavy drawers and carry lots of weight. Should sit at around 830 with polyairs. Rear shocks look ok but have 120,000 km on them. You are welcome to the bits.

I'll take you up on the offer mate, Very generous of you

I will pay the favour forward as well down the track.

I have an ARB bar up front that is it, Not going dual batteries as im putting everything into the van so we are comfortable.

I will have draws in back with some gear and the ball weight of van,

surely has to be better than stock that's in it ? Vehicle has done 230k.

Just measured front 730mm and rear 770mm with 90lts of fuel.
I'll PM you to sort out pick up

        Cheers

So the Prado is getting the suspension installed tomorrow. Current measurements:
          Front 730mm
          Rears 770mm
This is with only the rear seats and about 30lts of fuel in the back and alloy bar on the front. I'll post back once its done with the new measurements (and I'll pop it in the measurements sticky thread)

          pretty excited

Well I'm home and can I just put in a big thumbs up to John at Zordos Suspension, if anyone is on the Brisbane north side and looking for suspension, do yourself a favour and make sure you see John.

So here are the measurements (centre of hub to wheel arch)
              Before :
              Front 505mm
              Rear: 540mm
              After:
              Front 585mm
              Rear 610mm

So an 85mm lift on the front and 70mm lift on the rear. I'll measure again in about a week and see how things have settled. Still a slight rear to front rake, when we put the dual batts in this will probably bring the front down a touch. The front billies are on the bottom circlip.

I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.

Oh, and the ride is already amazing! I could not believe how much of a difference this would make. Smooth as butter! More impressions to come after a week of driving, and then Bribie next weekend.

This pig has a lot of mud to be happy in.

Well, better late then never. I had great plans of posting an in depth review of my suspension upgrade experience but time is just always getting the better of me, so for those interested.....

As posted earlier I went with a Bilstein and Dobinson combo, supplied and installed by John at Zordos suspension who I cannot recommend enough, legend!

                      BUT

It was clear from our Bribie trip, the medium springs in the rear were not up to the task, so a few days after I got back from Bribie, John and I swapped out the medium springs for the heavy duty ones (free of charge mind you).

Originally I thought it might have been a bit of overkill, it was firm alright! By no means overly harsh, but certainly firm. Well we hitched up the camper over Xmas and towed it over 4000klms on blacktop/dirt/mud and corrugations. We are only dropping about 15mm ni the rear with a full boot, 180ltrs of fuel and about a 180kg camper ball weight, the front comes up about 10mm, with the rear to front rake, this puts is very close to level, and sitting wonderfully on the road. The steering is still normal and by no means effected by hitching up the camper.

I'd say about the 1500klm mark, everything had settled in very VERY nicely. The ride is fantastic, no longer overly firm, and I'd say back the super smooth ride we got from the medium springs in the beginning.

We spent quite a bit of time on the dirt and corrogations, and even dropped the whole rig in some pretty serious mud holes (needed every bit of that lift!) and the whole car was wonderful (I could not beleive the Prado pulled us through that mud hole with the fully loaded camper, the love for this car, especially from the Mrs, reached new levels that day!)

So, whilst I am by no means an expert, and I have only the experience with the OME shocks (that weren't that shot in the end) with the stock springs, I can confidently recommend the Billies/Dobinson combo that John put together for me.

the Billies were: BE5A712 and 713's
the Dobinsons were: C59-329 (Rear) and C59-302 (Front)

I will try and get some photos up when I can.

                          Hi,
don't know if this has been covered anywhere but I have an 06 Grande with ARB deluxe steel bar and sagged front suspension. I want to lift to front up to level it out but retain the electronic struts nobody seems to do a decent heavy duty front coil that isn't lifted.

I know a 50mm lift coil wont work with this strut but was wondering if a 30mm lifted coil will work with the OEM front strut.

Has anybody seen/tried/heard of this being done?

otherwise the only option looks like new standard coils and a strut spacer.

                          Regards Brad

King springs do a standard height coil (KTFS-101) or you could try OME883 or Dobinsons C59-134.
