  • Prado GJR 120 Suspension Up Grade

    Hi Lads and Ladetts,

I am looking for a mild lift kit for a 2003 V6 Prado (2inch) and after looking at majority of the forums, I am still quite confused in which way to go?

Mainly do City, Beach and Outback Country Driving (Gravel Roads with Mild Corrugations) and looking in the future to tackle some more serious stuff (The Cape)

Accessories already fitted are as follows:
    • Sovereign Bar (No Winch)
    • 105 AMP AGM Dual Battery Under the Front Bumper (Front Right)
    • Rear Tow Bar (Toyota)
    • Roof Bars
    • Awning

I already have a camper trailer and will be looking in the future to purchase a small to mid size caravan/pop top and would like to ensure that what I choose now would be suitable.

I currently have been given a set of TJM HD (770FRHDI881) springs to cater for the front and have received a quote to match them with OME Shocks/Struts and OME rear springs Medium (300kg) with air bags.

My thoughts are to keep with the same manufacturer, however would ask for some forum recommendations on what they have currently, whether the above would work or a better suggestion.

I look forward to your responses regarding and I apologise if I seem like a novice.

    Cheers

I had the same set up in my 120 had light springs all round, HD in the front could be way to heavy, med in the back will be alright but my preference would be the lighter option with air bags to help tow, also stick with one brand as they are designed to go together, I have TJM in the 150, OME in the one 120 both very good, TJM slightly more comfortable.

Hutch- 2012 Prado 150, some TJM Kit.

Hutch is right. The petrol is lighter than the diesel and with an alloy bar with no winch so medium springs would be more suitable. I had a steel bar, AGM and diesel in the 120 and still only had medium springs.

http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...nsion-Database lists spring rates and details. Since springs are cheap I would go to the major suppliers, ARB, TJM and OL. There are others too such as Zordos here in Brisbane but I don't know where you are, put your location in your profile and someone local can give you some specific info.

        Hi Hutch and Mr Random,

Thank you fo your feedback it is more than welcome.

The reason I was thinking of using the HD's in the front is because the Dual Battery System overall weight is in excess of 40kg's and will be considering a winch or steel bar in the future. Would this make a difference to whether you'd still use medium springs?

I like your response also of sticking to the same brand through out as I would assume that suspension should always be matched. Do others have the same feeling?

Once again thank you for your response greatly appreciated and look forward to others.

        Cheers

If you wish to do the upgrade now but still have a while to go for the winch and steel barm, then I would choose a strut like the Bilsteins where the spring seat height can be altered. So start off with the medium springs then once you add the winch and steel bar, raise the spring seat to compensate for the drop in height.
