  • Has my suspension sagged?

    Hi All,

I was poking around under my 07 GXL this afternoon painting various bits keeping the rust away. Anyway, I noticed that my drive shafts are going upwards to the wheel - has my suspension sagged? This was previously my fathers car. Is this normal? I have original suspension. 75,000kms. Dual batteries and the original Toyota sovereign bar. Car has done about 7-8,000kms on rough corrugated roads (Birdsville, Oodnadatta and Strzelecki tracks)

I am leaning towards a new 50mm lift kit.

    This is standard on prados.
You need a lift kit to level them out.
It will save unnecessary wear on your c/v's

To figure out sag, you need to remove the spring snd measure the height with no load.
If it is at spec there's no sag, if its shorter then you have sag.

Just seems really odd, that's all. My previous car (BT50) the angles were horizontal from new, infact slightly bent down if I remember right.

Fronty, Give us a measurement from bottom edge of rim where it meets the tyre to the bottom edge of the guard as shown below. The standard height should be 740 - 760mm.

Easiest way to tell is to measure from the bottom of the rim to the flare. On a new un modified Prado it should be 750mm, bull bars ans winches will lower this measurement as will wear and tear. I would suspect at the k's you have done sagging is quote likely.

Edit: looks like Craig beat me to the punch.

            Cheers Andrew

              Hi Guys,
Just did some measuring. Drivers side - 742mm. Passenger - 735mm.

Craig - your suspension looks tough.

Fronts definately dropped a good 10-15mm which would be normal for a car with 75k on the clock. I swapped mine out on the 120 at 50k and it had sagged. I used the u don't want us getting bogged on Fraser because we r too low, safety etc etc.

Hahaha, I've just convinced her this weekend alone that I need to convert my spotties to HID and my bike needs a sport exhaust. Throwing the suspension lift into the mix might have dia consequences.

                        750mm is about right.
So your suspension is likely not sagged, the alloy bar and extra battery will be the 10mm+ you are under.
Even at 750mm the shafts are inverted, or whatever we can call it.
For every 25kg on the front bar area you can easily loose 5+ mm.
