When you lifted the front did they still use you origional shocks and does it effect your suspension control switch?
Hi Mate i had the air bag fixed under warranty so i don't know exactly how much they are. Left and right are different and are not interchangable unfortunatly good old toyota. I am not sure if there is an aftermarket one available worth looking into though. It would be good for someone to make a 30mm spacer block that fits between the airbag and the axel this would give the rear the lift required without re setting the sensor.

When i had the front done, we changed the springs as well as the shocks. So i have Billstein shocks all round. The original shocks are electronic and are just disconected and removed so the controler in the car is no longer funcional. You can reinstall the old ones without too much hassel.

The new springs in the front are important as the car now sits just higher than standard with all the accessories fitted and makes the approach angle much better.
      thanks Adds

this isnt possible, due to space constraints.

          Hi Darren.
(Probably off topic but i would like to know) (if it deseves another thread i will start it)

As a suspension GURU (well at least you know what your on about and in the trade) Can you expand on this?
I heard from my suspension installer that 2" was the maximum a Prado (gxl, not sure about Grande) front end can be lifted.
          Why would that be?
Is it that the joints etc of the wishbones/ arms jam up? or is it a drive shaft alingment issue?
          Or something else? legal?

          Thanks in advance.
          Jeff.

Surprised that they didn't try and reject it due to the non-standard suspension... :?

However, I am glad for you that they didn't reject it.

They mentioned it and i pushed the issue that the component, a standard toyota part had failed and shouldn't have, they basiclly couldn't reject it that perspective.

If the bag had split or torn it may have been another matter.
              thanks Adds

Afew things with this, one is, you have to have a certain amount of down travel [70mm] so they dont top the shock out around town, No 2 is, the ball joint can only droop so far before topping its travel, which snaps off, at speed, when this happens. 3 is, once the arms get to a certain angle, the tyres move in and out to go up and down on the arc of the arms, which adds to resistance, and wears the tyres, like an old lifted IFS hilux or forerunner used to.

Changing piuvot points, arm lengths, ball joints is required to go much more than 60mm lift in the front.

                  Hi Darren,
I was quoted the other day for new King springs in the front to give me an extra 40mm and was told i could keep the origional shocks.
Is this going to effect the shock or will it cope as im not intending to do extreme 4wd just the outings we have in W.A

                      Hi there,

Can the front suspension on the Grande be sorted just with new front springs? I've added a bar, winch etc and would like to deal with the extra weight.

                      Cheers,

                      Andrew

Yes it can. Post 1 in this thread states as thus. The author of that particular post is also the man to speak to in regards to different springs and rates for different situations. etc.

I have added a bar, winch etc and replaced my front springs with Raised King spring which is supposed to give a 40- 50 mm lift ( Bull#hit). However this has just about brought it up to standard height without replacing the Strut/Shock.

The measurement of before and after are below

                          Before 480MM
                          After 510MM

Not the idea solution however - I'm not call dozer anymore ( I think)

Ok ive just fitted 40mm Kings in the front and a set of D694`s 275/65/17 and have the difference in measurments.

                            Before springs After springs

                            Front 740mm 775mm

Rear 780mm 785mm on normal setting

The tyres alone gave me about 10mm.

These measurments differ from the company that installed them so i dont know where they took there`s from.

                            Before After
                            Front 272 320

                            Rear 317 321

                            Here`s before and after pics

Hey Moto, its off topic, but was your speedo out before the 694's and is now spot on? You'll need a gps to check.

                              Mine is 100% with 694's !

Love the lift too, looks great, thakns for the pics. I am still wondering if a 70 profile can be fitted without a front bar? (no rubbing?)

                                Hi Piggy,
Yes the speedo was out at least 6kms according to Chippy and a few others and i will check this weekend with the group.

I was thinking of 70 profile as well but with all the talk of whats allowed and whats not with the insurance companys and Toyota i woosed out and went safe although they are a tad wider.
