  • Suspension.. Opinions.. not measurements..

so before the search brigade jumps on me.. I have looked in the suspension database thread.. and although its full of interesting numbers.. i want to know real world opinions..

my front struts have been cactus for about a year.. and the issue has been exacerbated since put an arb deluxe bar on the rig a few months ago..

i have also never been happy with my rear spring rate.. as its way too stiff.

the rig had a 2 inch lift put in in 2007 and although i have been happy with the extra ride height.. i think i want to go back down to a stock-1 inch type of lift.

can you please give me some recommendations on some new struts? i have heard mixed stories about each brand.. and want to hear the latest from you guys on your experiance with brands..

i am in the market for mid range gear.. i would rather put 3 sets of cheapies in then put a set of billies in and have them fail in 12 months.

    thanks fellas..!

p.s.. i live in rocky.. so dobinsons is local.. and i could save some freight so please give feedback if especially if you have them...

Mate, you say your struts have been stuffed for a year and then within 24 hours of posting for advise you've done the deal!

That's a serious patience issue you have - are you related to MLC??
      Cheers

          This thread makes no sense.

And yes, I too believe 'Matt' may in fact 'MLC' as he has also quoted himself...

I supply & fitted another 120 with Dobinsons, yesterday. The height is perfect. The ride is even better......excellent! Great colours! Aussie company! Great service!
I know someone who can get them cheaper for you & your Prado point discount, but I guess it's too late.

Well I was one of the 72, and it seemed pointless to reply to your question.

You never mentioned what suspension you currently have, so I could give you a run down on mine only to find out its the same brand you already have. Apart from that I have spoken extensively in other threads about my setup and what I think of it so why would I want to type that out yet another time? That's what the search function is for but you canned that straight off the bat so no point in pointing that out to you either.

If you got 15 replies to your question you would likely get 28 different views, crikey even in a single brand you could have dozens of different combinations.

If you had a more specific question about 1 or 2 brands then that's easier to answer if you have experience with said brand.

                Cheers Andrew

i wasnt after war and peace about each setup.. merely a sentence regarding peoples brief opinions about brands.. what to steer clear of.. what they are happy with..

you are thinking too specifically.. perhaps i should have posted this in general.. as i wanted a general opinion of brands..

                  but thanks for your post

I take it the suspension database was more helpful than you first thought, the spring rates listed will tell you which are softer and comparing the rates of your current springs, (which are still a mystery but I'm guessing are probably Kings) you clearly made a well educated and informed decision on the Dobinsons springs. Had I not been overseas and seen this thread earlier that's exactly what I would have recommended. As #### said, you won't go wrong with Dobinsons gear and being local, take heed of their advice and you'll find it to be spot on. Glad to be of service!

well the suspension is in.. a few ceased bolts on the rear sway bar, and hassles with the upper trailing arms meant just doing the springs in the rear was more work than doing the struts in the front..

nice not to get bounced all over the place now..
