  • I was told Monroe TDT shocks are the way to go ?

I went to my local 4wd shop today , its quite a big shop with about 15-20 employees , so they are not a small unprofessional outfit . They did my arb bar and sold me the snorkle . They do quite a bit of work as there looks to be about 10 x 4wds on lifts any time i go there . Im telling you this as to possibly show the credibility of the managers claims on these shocks .

I started talking old man emu and the guy said , go Monroe TDT .... Monroe make the OME shocks and i would only be paying for the OME sticker .

Now i have read extinsively the suspension forum and also searched "MONROE" and there is not a mention anywhere .

Would like to know if anyone has had any experience with these shocks or knows anyone who has ???

He says he will do these with King springs for around $1500 fitted , but i havnt went to work on the final price yet

I know a 2" lift will be about 3-4" for me as i reckon my wagon is saggin a bit with the standard gear & its 4 years old now .

I look forward to your input (even if you want to tell me about Blistiens)

    Also ......

    Monroe TDT - 60,000km or 3yr warranty

Old Man Emu - 40,000 or 2yr warranty

just another thing the guy said to try put me in that direction rather than OME :!:

        Thats the one TP !

are you thinking that the monroe factory is only 1km away and they are getting a bigger slice of cake selling the monroe rather than the badged OME ?

I understand 100% that they are a business and thats the way to do it ..eg ..seller .. car sales man

Also them buying OME stuff has the middle man price on it .

But the statment that they are from the same factory is a good one ?

"your only buying the sticker" he said ?

BTW team piggy , i will probably go blistiens anyway .

The only reason is ... you car is only as good as the suspension and tyres .

they have had the wind blown up them here a million times so i take on the many years of experience and listen to these guys .

Just very interested as OME was another option i was tossing off over ops:

I was going to say: Just watch that guys pricing.....

He has done a few people over I know of before. Some of them quite nastily.

I went to him on the ARB diff lock special before (Free compressor) and he spent 40 minutes telling me it didnt exist, even though I had the paperwork from ARB and asked him to ring them.

He gets a lot of government and corporate work by tender (which we all know is cream once you have it).

Can't say I can vouch for any of the shocks as I havent tried them before.

But if you want to talk about DMS (Drummond Motor Sport) suspension  I can offer a lot of discussion on them

Zordo & Raydes , i am 100% a DIY man but i dont have the spring decompressors or the jacks needed to drop the suspension .

If i had a outfit in Adelaide ready to fit blistiens and lovells for $1500 , id take the left arm off them .

BTW i have not played around for prices yet , and i realise i could get the bits for around $1000 (not fitted)

i WILL go blistiens and either lovells or king springs as YOUS guys have all blew the wind up them , there is no sales like experience .

I am the #1 person who always stands back and thinks , what if i had listened and got them ..... BEFORE I BUY !

so i will get the bilstiens definately . anyone with recomendations in Adelaide of where to go would be good ?

You can order them from ATS 4x4 (Geelong) , and Darren at Total traction tyres (Lonsdale) or Ian at Southern vales 4x4 can fit them.

                            Hey BillyS,

They usually don't come more DIY than me and being a mechanic by trade I shouldn't really have any excuse not do them myself, but in this instance I just wanted it done and dusted in a few hours, which normally would have taken me half a day or more at home grovelling around on the ground. And then there's the fact that I would need to be a new set of spring compressors as the ones I have are not long or heavy duty enough. I did my old man's Disco 3 in the garage at home and had to take the springs to a shop to get them changed over..... I just couldn't be bothered this time!

Anywayz the price I got fitted was bloody good, so the extra expense wasn't worth my time anyway...

                            My two cents.

                            Mitch
