  • 80 series front spring and rear shock into prado 120

As the title says, is this the norm for obtaining longer travel? I've searched here, and done a google search with pradopoint as a keyword and no definitive answers!

I think AJ120 is using a OME 80 series shock, check his build thread maybe

Yes 80 series rear shocks, haven't heard of anyone putting in 80 series springs in the front though.

Have a look here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post355055 and follow it for a page or 2 for all the info on what I did around fitting the 80 series shocks and what I achieved.

        Cheers Andrew

Sorry Andrew, I meant I had heard of people using the 80 front springs in the rear.

Where am I supposed to be looking, there doesn't seem to be a link there?

              Oops, link is here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post355055

Not sure about 80 series springs in the rear, heard of that in a 90 series but not a 120.

              Cheers Andrew

Ahh ok, that makes some sense, my next line of questioning was going to be about how they handled the weight Are you happy with the 80 shocks? Or would you go longer again if the option was there?

Very Happy with the 80 series shocks. I used N71E Old Man Emus which is a standard duty 80 series shock and that seems about right on my Prado.

If I went for anything longer then I am going to need to replace springs as well, as it is at full extension my springs are just a little bit loose, another 20mm travel and I would risk them popping out. So given I got a 50% increase in travel I am happy with that for what I do. Old story though, more flex is always a good thing in the rough stuff.

                  Cheers Andrew

I've ran 80 series front flexy coils in the rear of mine and also 100 series front flexy in the rear , now the 80 springs don't seat properly where as the 100 series springs do.

And with the 2" flexy coils I have a 12" travel shock 780mm open with the spring still retained

                    2" 100 series flexy coils give 5" lift ,

1" 80 series give you about 3-4" lift

That's a fairly sizable lift! What'd you do with the front end to match that?

When talking about what suspension you were running it's probably worth letting people know that you rolled your Prado and wrote it off. Now I don't know the circumstances of the roll over and whether the suspension geometry was a factor or not, but I think people need the full story before listening to advice.

                        Cheers Andrew

It's not advice I was simply saying what I had. And your right you don't know the circumstances so there's no need to act like a hero...

I had superior eng upper arms in the front , diff drop and 30mm spacers ontop of 2" OME struts and extended bump stops

I was looking to get a set of the upper arms soon, not sure about the diff drop.

I'd prefer to stick around the 2" lift, maybe a touch higher, but 4" is probably getting a bit far for me. I've been looking at the flex coils for the back, I really need to get the coil conversion done shortly. Only 8 weeks to go!

If you get diff drop get the monster rides brackets and don't waste your time with the spacers , the standard Toyota ones are weak I have broken 2 , and 1 of them caused the diff pumpkin to punch a hole in my sump ..
