  • Firestone bag question

    Hey guys,
Apologies for asking a question that no doubt has been asked but couldn't find it in a search without trawling through a million threads

If i bought Firestone Bags for a stock suspension, will they still fit if i get lifted suspension later on? Spacers etc?

Also best place to buy them quickly/cheaply??

    Cheers
    Dave

I did mine a few years ago now but I do remember that there were different Firestones for standard and lifted suspension.

I got mine through www.truckspring.com but that was when the dollar was more favourable. Part # SKU4107 for a 2004 TD with 2" lift.

Check out this thread for some more complete advise:

the lifted and standard height Prado uses different bags,, The standard height bag is 6024 ..4.75" diam and 7.5" long. The raised Prado uses bag 6021 ,4.75"diam and 9" long. You would need a BIG 1 and half inch thick spacer to use a standard bag on a raised Prado,I don't know how you would hold it in there. Cheap enough from Trucksprings ,, http://www.truckspring.com/products/...ear__4107.aspx

Ended up buying them locally today as i need them for next weekend and didn't want to stress with delivery from USA.
Picked them up from All Air Springs in Meadowbank ($295) and fitted them this evening. Took less than three hours and everything was easy - especially thanks to some tips picked up from this forum and you tube. Only had to disconnect one side of the sway bar and the lower shock mounts, then just jacked the opposite wheel up.
Also according to the distributor there's no problem adding a spacer up to 2" later.
WIth 10psi in them it gave me 22mm lift on each side. Very happy
                  Cheers, Dave

They are not supposed to lift the car ? Did you cut down the bump stops in the springs?

With 10psi in mine and unlaiden they barely lift it at all.
                      Even with 30psi I doubt they'd lift it 22mm...

First time on so be kind.

I have fitted a set of Polly Air Bags to the rear of my 2008 120 VX diesel for towing purposes and they work a treat when either the 21 foot Caribbean or the19 foot 6 caravan is hooked up. When not towing I keep the air bag inflated to about 10 psi.

Prior to hooking up either the boat or the van I inflate the air bags to about 35 to 40 psi (each air bag has its own inflation valve) I have taken a ground to vehicle measurement both left and right side of the rear of the Prado so that when we load the car up I can then deflate the air bags to the predetermined height, so that when driving at night time your head lights and spotlights do not point into the night sky or on low beam they do not affect on coming drivers.

If the vehicle is loaded unevenly to one side then you play with the air bag pressures to level out your vehicle.

                        Worth the money, most defiantly.

Stratos, my Firestones have a limit of 30psi and I though polyair was the same.

Also, a limit of 20psi applies to polyair when offroad as the articulation of the axle will increase the pressure to near the bags limit.
                          Cheers
