  • Lift plus spacers

Hey I was just wondering if it is safe to run a 2" lift plus a 35mm spacer in the front combined with aftermarket upper control arms.
    Thanks

I've been running spacers front and rear with the exact setup you describe for over a year with no dramas whatsoever. Any other questions feel free to ask.

      Hey,

I would have a read of this thread before you decide to go ahead....

      http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ut-lift-blocks

There are many reported disadvantages to large strut spacers, 1. Eventually something will break, 2. You increase the closed length, and you need to space your bump stops down so you don't bottom out the strut, 3. You will get taller lift, but you will not have decent articulation/flex geometry.

Failures on control arms/ball joints/struts/etc. etc. are reported on all vehicle types running IFS with thick strut spacers.

You are much better off putting in the correct strut and coil combination, and then you don't need spacers, and you will get good suspension travel and lift.

Take a look at this plot for an idea of how your lift affects your droop on the IFS...

      http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-Prado-120-IFS

If you're going to spend big bucks on after market upper control arms, then you should also spend some bucks and get a good strut/coil combination for the lift you're trying to get.

A 2" lift plus 35mm spacer! The spacer will give you around 70mm lift on its own add your 2" lift and your talking a 5" lift, I can't see that working even slightly.

        Cheers Andrew

          Hey Andrew,

Do you know what is the thickest spacer that someone has used in the front IFS?

I don't think I have seen them over 25mm, which would be around a 2" lift, but even at that everything I have read about them is that they cause more problems than they are worth. People may have run larger but I have not seen it.

              Hey again,

I think the rough country kits use very big spacers, over 1.5" thick and beyond, which is getting pretty outrageous with the leverage ratio.....rough country is a crazy different story though!

What Whitey said above still applies. The spacers costs the same as new coils but the spacers has more disadvantages and is also illegal.

All of these guys are right.
It's not the ideal way to lift it.
Yes it gives the height, but lacks in so many other areas.
Eventual strut failure or bending will occur.....

                    Regards, Jason.
