  • slop in steering rack

    hi guys
recently took a whack to the passenger side of the 120 - had to replace steering knuckle to fix some serious camber issue now have noticed that there is a bit of slop in the rack (the impact side only) its about 5mm - assume there is some kinda nylon bush inside thats copped a belting - anyone pulled one of these down before? night mare?

car has to go over pits (been sat for a while and way out of rego) - does anyone know if there is an allowance which you are allowed with play in the steering? (WA)

btw - the play is def in the rack, (not wheel bearing or balljoint)
    cheers

    Hi Bill
Not the thread that I was looking for on the FJ Forum, but this one does show some of the inner workings of the steering rack. http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...ing-links.html
These guys tend to replace them quite often due to fitment of larger tyres and off road punishment.
    Hope this helps.
Ebay lists several non Gen. replacement rack ends also.
    Cheers
