    Thanks

I must be having a seniors moment, I can't picture which bolt you are talking about.
Anyhow, any point where a bush will have the end crushed and held, or where there is a crush tube involved, I lower the car onto it's wheels to torque. I just do it for everything regardless, if lacking room I just lower it onto blocks under the wheels/suspension to give me normal ride height.

The bolt that attaches the shock to the control arm. If I kill these bushings then I'll try your idea of putting on blocks! I'm getting some ramps too to get the front end up to get some more space to tighten these bolts with it on its wheels.

Yep, I would do it just because. If the bush can still turn in the shock eye it shouldn't matter, but I would just do it anyway.

I spoke with Whiteline the other day about my split bushes and they very quickly sent a replacement set free of charge, so very good customer service there. All they really wanted to know was how old they were (2 Years) and didn't really offer any explanation for the failure. I'm not really sure if I will fit these or to chase up genuine rubber.

Its a bit hard to see in the pic but the mounting bolt is not really parael to the bush, this is because its one of the adjustment bolts used for wheel alignments. This causes extra pressure on one sided of the bush than the other. I am wondering if this extra pressure on the bush is overloading it causing failure. Maybe the factory rubber is better suited in this application as it is softer and has more give.

Which way are genuine bushes orientated when they go in?

I have decided to go back to the factory rubber bushes so ordered a set from http://www.amayama.com/en/ their prices are very reasonable for genuine parts, 48655-60030 $46.15 each and 48654-60030 $38.23 each. I also got a bunch of other stuff, total postage cost was $160.

A question though, does any one know which way they the new bushes are orientated when they go in? The new bushes are not solid rubber all the way through, it has two hollow sections on opposite sides. I need to know which way the tab faces when installed, is it horizontal or vertical when installed?

Sure that the OEM rubber bushes do not pivot in the chassis mount due to the knurled washers on the bushes.
Would therefore assume that the rubber actually does the pivoting when the control arm moves.
Where as the after market poly type bushes pivot on the mounting bolts, between the supplied washers.
This then becomes a problem when the chassis mountings and the bush washers are not parallel to each other as you have shown in the above picture.
I encountered this during the recent installation of After market poly bushes. I had some washers machined up to increase the thickness and of better material than the kit supplied ones.
The effect of installing these was that it brought the Chassis mounts back to parallel when factory torque settings where dialed up.
              Regards
              Troy

                Hi Kevdebbi
Trying to picture the orientation of the OEM bushes in the LCA.
I'll see what I've got in the build up pictures.

Thanks Troy thats great. From your pictures with the control arm in a horizontal position it looks like the larger bush, 48655-60030 has the voids front and back (horizontal) and the smaller bush 48654-60030 has the void top and bottom (vertical). I would have thought they would be both the same but it looks clear in you pictures.

Thanks for your feed back, I would have put them both in the same way otherwise.

                    No probs Kevdebbi
Just repaying the favor from your great build up info.
Hard to see the orientation of the voids when in situ on a vehicle even.
                    Cheers
