Newbie question - Clunk through steering wheel at low speeds

Hi all, first post here...wish I had found this site before picking up our second hand 2004 GXL Petrol yesterday....would have looked for those cracks around the back hinges before signing....

Anyway, traded the wife's RAV4 in on the Prado, I myself drive a Territory for work. Absolutely LOVE the Prado.

So on the way home from Sydney to Gosford in our shiny white beast, I noticed a slight rattle, or knock, through the steering wheel when the two front wheels hit a bump simultaneously at low speed, like, say, when slowing down approaching traffic lights. it is not very loud, but the Car is soooo quiet, every noise is loud!

Anyone else had this problem? Only appears at low speeds.

Yep, get the car dealer to sort it.

We bought a little Pulsar last year from a 2nd hand dealer which had a few gearbox issues. I rang DOCEP (Dept of Employment and Consumer Protection) for advice. They were extremely helpful as they have a detailed list of what the standard 3 month second hand warranty covers. It covers more than I realized at the time. Took the car back to the dealer and in passing mentioned DOCEP just to get the message across that I knew my rights. We had the Pulsar looked at and fixed at the dealers cost. All the while the particular mechanic tried to suggest cheaper quick fixes, obviously wanting to produces the lowest repair cost for the dealer he was obviously in cahoots with. Stand your ground, the cost is not your problem. It's theirs. DOCEP even said to me that a replacement gearbox was in order if the problem couldn't be fixed.

You might be able to run the problem past a Toyota service Dept for advice on the problem.
