  • Would it fit??

As a very temporary solution, would the front springs of a FJ cruiser fit the front of my prado??

    And, is it worth doing??

My car has the factory sus in it. The previous owners have added an ARB deluxe winch bar, the front end is now really low. I can hit the bump stops if I go over speed humps to fast.

I want to finish setting up the car and do the sus last.

The idea is to hopefully use FJ springs ( free ) in hope they will lift my car for now.

I thought the FJ was a Prado 120 with a different body. If they where standard possibly no lift. Springs are fairly cheap to buy ($250) but would cost about the same to have someone fit them. It's not that hard to do yourself just need some stands, large jack and spring compressors.
If you have not done these before let us know and we can help. (a tutorial)

I reckon do it new & do it once instead of twice. They are cheap enough without struts & shocks

Why replace a standard spring with another standard spring. The FJ shares the running gear and suspension with the V6 Prado. I agree with Mattfunk and do the job once and do it properly. Besides, you'll be up for a $60 - 100 wheel alignment once fitted too.

          Hey red hilux,

The Australian model FJ is based on the shortened 150 chassis. RHD vehicles were first manufactured in Japan starting 2010, released in Australia in 2011.

07-09 (USA) spec FJ runs shortened 120 chassis/IFS, 10-15 (USA and Oz) spec FJ runs shortened 150 chassis/IFS.

As such, the Oz model FJ runs the same IFS as the 150 series Prado (higher rate coils, larger bottom strut bush, longer crush tube etc.), and the coil spring rates are much higher than the 120 at around 750lb/in compared to 600lb/in for the 120.

The front FJ coil is 355mm and 750lb/in (7.75 wraps) compared to 370mm and 600lb/in for the 120, so in the end you will probably not get anything much in the way of lift, but you can run the FJ coils in your 120 if you really need to.

The much stiffer FJ coil requires a higher rebound strut than you would normally run on the 120, so your 120 front end may feel bouncy going over speedbumps etc.

I would only use the FJ coils as a stop gap measure until you get coils that are more appropriate for the 120, in the 600-660lb/in range maximum.

The FJ front struts are a 120/150 hybrid in length terms, with the closed length of a 150 and open length of a 120, 433-540mm.

You may have to file down the crush tube of an OEM FJ strut to get it to fit in the lower arm bush cradle of a 120, as it is longer by 2mm.
