  • Poly bags yes or no?

I have a 2" Dobinsons lift in my 120 however when towing a 1.4tonne trailer there is a noticeable sag in the rear end that I would like to remove. Would replacing the shocks help or would I better installing some poly air bags? or both say with medium Old man emus? I don't tow that often so don't want to stiffen the rear end too much. Rep told me that possible solution would be just the air-bags at approx 600 installed? anyone have any advice/feedback on airbags?

Have had the polyair bags in for 7 years no problems. Pump them up before you attach trailer/van. Changing your shocks won't stop sagging.

exactly, shocks only control the movement , springs only carry the weight & set the ride hieght

Cheers blokes...will get it done, the 'poly air reds' are recommended but will have to look into the firestones too.

As above. Had the polyairs in with OME medium rears for 7 years. No problems. Easy enough to fit yourself- save $300.

In my 2010 Prado, I had a 40mm Dobinson suspension lift, and John Zordo also put in firestone Coilrite airbags in the rear as I was towing a 2.5T boat.
Perfect...and I will get the suspension lifted soon on our new Prado.

Just remember a couple of things, always leave at least 5psi in the airbags, even when unloaded, to stop the bags getting pinched or moving about inside the spring.
Always air up the airbags BEFORE you load the car up, don't load up the car and then pressurise the airbags...but the installer or instructions will tell you that.
From memory I used about 15psi when towing our camper, and about 20psi for towing the boat... or there abouts...all depends on tow ball downforce weight.
Airbags give you the best of both worlds, and good ride height and comfort when unloaded, and then maintains the ride height when loaded.

I had tried heavy duty lifted rear springs initially, but found the unloaded ride was too harsh, so the airbags were a great solution for me.
Apparently you can now get a sleeve for the airbags, perhaps for protection or for more pressure, I'm not sure, but I didn't get the sleeve option.
Others might have some advice on the airbag sleeves perhaps.

My 2008 Prado had Polyairs fitted from new - they've both been replaced due to leaks this year. So after about 8 years... works out to have cost about 10 cents a day to have them installed Relatively easy to replace though

That said, very happy with them and like the adjustment they give for when we hook up the camper or just load the car up for a quick tent trip. I run them day to day with about 8psi in them. I swapped from stock to Med duty OME coils in the rear a couple of years ago and with the OME I don't need as much pressure over the originals coils - which is to be expected.
