    Sorry to dig up an old post, but i was wondering if you could tell me what the length of the rear shocks work out to be(open and close) with those spacers on them? Im trying to find the longest shocks i can get without going to silly on it....

      Shocks are:

      PART NO: N142
      CLOSED LENGTH: 353MM
      OPEN LENGTH: 577

      Spacers add another 82mm to these measurements.

        Front coil spacers look good, I have tried long coils but they were to high in rate and would not articulate so will give these a go.

        Warning about shock spacers - when fitting spacers to shocks the bump stops also need to be addressed as the fastest way to kill a shock is to bottom it out.
        The actual bump stop is not inside the coil but on the chassis rail where it can protect other components in heavy bump situations. We have removed everything but the 4 trailing links from the rear suspension to work out what you can get from the rear end and found that the sway bar limits the travel as well as the shocks - go to far and the RHS upper control arm will hit the fuel tank!
        We found the maximum shock length to be 635mm (with safety margin) and required both bump stop and sway bar spacers (about 10mm each) to protect the shock at full compression. Adding a spacer to a shorter shock only allows a higher height range, not more travel. Below are photos of our spacers fitted; they are available from me for $30.00 per set + freight (we are in Brisbane).           Alloy spacers are available to suit the Hilux/Prado and are available in 30mm (and maybe other sizes) which with a softer spring would give great articulation for those without too much weight in accessories over the front end.

          In my case I required a 20mm bump stop spacer. However my sway bar spacer would need to be a lot more than 10mm. currently trialling a set of Patrol links with disconnects.

          Adding a spacer to a shorter shock only allows a higher height range, not more travel.
          This depends on the situation. In the case of OME set up (as in this thread and Pauls) the shock is a poor match to the available articulation even before the spring spacer and by adding an appropriately sized spacer the travel of the shock better matches the rest of the suspension and is no longer the limiting factor... the sway bar is.

              Well they fit (The short one off a GU rear)... but what a PITA they are to reconnect... Park on any sort of uneven ground and they are a struggle to line up and you get dirty doing it too.

              I gave them back to the guy I borrowed them off.

              My current plan is to extend mine with a similar set up to my shock extensions.
