    Interesting Leachy. I've heard very different things about the Bilstein shocks and am really not sure about them. Auto-Craft I haven't even thought about to be honest. Are they good gear? Suppose they are otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned em

    If you were to compare directly to OME gear whats the added benefit?

    Where's a good place in Perth to shop around?

    I suppose I don't need anything too hardcore at the end of the day but certainly 1/2 decent gear that won't fly to bits on a corrugated road. And might as well get the beast gear I can within the budget.

      I just got quoted $1400 fitted from ARB Newcastle for OME with the heaviest springs $1200 unfitted.

      At this stage I am going to be fitting the Rancho 9000XL 9 stage adjustable shocks with an in-cab remote control that I have coming from the States. Shocks and Kings for $1130 unfitted, which I think is a pretty good deal. In-cab remote US$60 compared to AUS$480.

        iron paw give coastal 4 x 4 a call and have a chat to the boys. Im sure they will be able to help you out. Mumsrig had bluemax fitted and i followed suit with bluemax also. I am happy with the setup and should have done it sooner. The bluemax are apparently Aussie designed and made here also which appealed.

          Yeah I've heard / read a number of good reports about Coastal 4x4 and not just from this forum. I suppose I'll ask them why not to fit OME stuff and see what they say.

            The one benefit Bilstiens have over OME and Blue Max is the ability to adjust the preload the front spings by moving the spring seat (achieved by moving a retaining clip to one of three grooves). This allows you to match the preload to your vehicle setup (Bullbar, winch, battereis etc.)

            Auto-Craft is a Bilstien/ Ridepro package put together by Darren McCrea. The Bilstiens have been re-valved and the bushes changed.

              OK guys I have finally got the lift done.

              Big thanks goes to Darren & Dale who talked Rockingham Suspensions through the stages of the install on the Grande.

              Now the measurements are from bottom of rim to edge of fender

              Front with Soverign bar and duel batteries
              Before 710mm
              After 750mm

              Rear with 90l in tank
              Before 770mm normal height
              After 800mm normal height

              I think still low on the front any comments?

                Did you go with the Bilstein/Ridepro combo? With an alloy bar that is low. I've got 770mm (F) and 820mm (R) with above kit, ARB bar and dual batteries.

                Note: Circlip at Centre position

                  Yes I have gone with the Bilstein/Ridepro combo the front shocks are set with the circlip on the bottom will putting it on the middle help?

                    I believe so and think most PPers have it on the centre setting. I'm not sure whether this change will require another wheel alignment.

                    FYI when I got mine done was advised not to go for the top setting (since I don't have a winch).

                      Steve,

                      The ridepro/bilstein package that Darren does is aimed at 770mm at the front. Going by your measurments you should have it on the top circlip position as for each 5mm increase in the preload brings your car up approx 10mm. Unless the Grande setups are different. It seems pretty low. It must look like the bum is sticking up in the air. Mine does and I hate it. It sits at 770mm front and approx 810mm at the back (getting new grooves machined to bring it up to 790mm).

                      I'm sure Darren will confirm this for you...

                        Was advised on the Top setting the h/lights will be flashing upwards (trees etc) :?

                        Top setting is okay cos you gotta winch. Steve61 does not have a winch, right?

                          Hi Guys,

                          Yes that is correct I do not have a winch only a wench.

                          Went to Rocky Suspensions to see if they can put the circlip on the middle but they said it would be a hard ride so they will not to do it (must be too hard for them)

                          Will either wait for next WA PP tech day or try other suspension people see if they will do it for me.

                              Considering the Prado sits level as standard I'm sure the lights wont be pointing up into the trees, although the extra height of the lights may affect the beam... In any case it's pretty easy to adjust the headlights if this were the outcome. My lights need to come up anyhow as they seem to be just plowing into the road.

                              As I said earlier that there may be some differences with the Grande setup... When I spoke to Darren he said his kit was designed to sit at 770mm (obviously depending on what gear you're running as to where the circlip will be), I would have at least thought that Steve's would be on the middle position given the bar and battery. Also something worth noting (thanks to Darren) is that for the bilstein kit, the minimum level of droop is 60mm. So if your sitting 750mm rim to gaurd then you jack the car up and measure again at say 850mm, the droop is the difference between the two. So droop = 100mm and you can come up a max of 40mm (790mm at the front). Again going up this high may affect your setup, as in ride comfort etc... I'm no expert here just going on what I've been told.

                              For some reason the ridepro setup sits lower than all the rest.

                              Probably best to speak to Darren and get an experts opinion on it.

                                Okay Steve I just measured mine with the 90l light on, I have 78 litres left in the tank. After the Premium Billy/ride pro kit the measurements are:

                                Front: 780mm
                                Rear: 820mm

                                Front has Sov BB but only single batt and lightforce 240 spotties.

                                Ride no different to stock suspension, not rigid & body still rolls in corners. Still has standard Grandcraps on it.
