Before the lovells - Front 740mm Rear 770mm

After the lovells - Front 770mm Rear 830mm

Medium rate springs and Lovells Gas Legend shocks front and rear

I would have liked a little more lift in the front, but 2 other quotes also came back with 25 - 40mm lift, so no real complaints there.

Handling is much improved, with less lean in corners already apparent, ride is slightly firmer, but not so you would notice if you weren't looking for it.

Will have to wait and see how we go offroad

    $1100 fitted and aligned

      Looks good Steve

I too can vouch for the Lovells... still performing nicely after 30,000 km's (13 months)

hey steve the lift looks good, but if ya want more lift in the front you could always fit some 25mm spring spacers, but they arnt exactly legal, (paint em black and dont tell no one) or just go 4 a heavy spring, i did this because im fitting a winch in the future, just a thought

          Re: lovells fitted today

My local dealer has recommended Lovells springs/shocks for my 120-series and says I'll get 2" (=50mm) lift front and back. He has quoted me $1,600,- fitted.

I would love to hear more comments on the Lovells as I only want to do this once and not waste time/money dicking around with them later down the line. The Prado is used as a 'touring vehicle' on camping trips on fairly rutter Victorian mountain tracks with some corrugations thrown in, plus the odd trip to the sandy tracks of the 'Victorian deserts', so it gets farily diverse use. I have had a few occasions where the Prado's belly has scarped mother earth, plus I need to compensate for an ARB deluxe bar's weight up front.

For that price you should be getting Lovells and Bilstien shocks?? have a good look through the suspension threads, heaps a good info.

                Bill,
                $900 for install is pricey. I bought a 2" lift comprised of Lovells shocks and Dobinson coils on the net for $790. Borrowed a couple spring compressors from a mate (seen them in auto shops for about $60 if you can't borrow any) and followed the instructions from the DIY suspension install (first bit of work I have ever done on a car);
                viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2484
The Lovells shocks may be on the cheap side but have handled all the tracks I have tackled. They give a firmer ride (not harsh) and have improved my handling. Very happy with them so far. I would try Lovells again if I got a new car.

                    Hey Golly,

                    Try these guys

                    https://www.suspensionstuff.com.au/shop/

                    http://www.4wddirect.com.au/index.htm

I went with 4wd direct, simply because they had a 1300 number, the other guys only had a mobile. They both have the 1300 now, so toss a coin. I think they both do free freight.

Be warned though. Freight can be hit and miss with reguards timing. Matt(admin) said he waited several weeks for a set of lights (I think), I got my springs and struts in 3 days.

Ride is firm without being harsh, if your car is newish and not sagged, don't expect to be blown away with the amount of lift, but it does make a difference. With suspension, tyres and racks, I now have just on 18mm of clearance in our garage  and am limited to 2.1m carparks

                    Good luck
                    Steve

                      Hey Golly,
I went with Suspension Stuff (https://www.suspensionstuff.com.au) as they offered Dobinson coils instead on Lovells. This was purely because Dobinson offer 3 different raised coil types (0-60kg, 150-300kg and 400kg constant load springs) and I couldn't find what the Lovells HD coils were rated for. I wanted to maintain ride comfort so opted for 150-300kg coils as I have a dual wheel carrier on the back. I would also rather install airbags instead of HD coils as would provide a more comfortable ride.
In regards to freight it took 2 weeks to arrive due to the fact they had to wait a week for stock to arrive and freight to Perth was free.
                      Part Numbers:
                      Lovells Struts and Shocks - 1100 489
                      Dobinson Coils - C59-302(front) C59-329(rear)
                      Cheers,

                            Hey Wapper
Racked up just over 10K now on my lovells and dobinson mix and am happy as can be. Was a bit hesitant at first with the stiffness of the dobinson springs but after they settled the improvement was huge. In regards to my lovells shocks I thought they might be a bit rough seeing though they were a lot cheaper compared to all the other brands but they have performed well over the first 10K. I've noticed huge improvements in onroad and offroad ride quality and ability. Can't compare to other brands, but $$$ well spent.

                              Corbo,

I have contacted Suspension stuff and they recommend their own kit. I worked out that it's the same price for the lovells and dobinson mix, so after your comments I may go down that path... Theres a bit more history with lovells and dobinsons...

Been on any long rough corrugations as thats what we drive up here a fair bit?

Any problems thus far with them?

                                Re: lovells fitted today

I have the dobinson/lovells combo from suspension stuff. Its a huge difference for the better, i am really happy with it. We are in the North West of WA and so our car its fair share of corrugations and the difference has been really positive. At first I was worried that the stiffer springs would be worse then the standard springs on the corrugations, but they are actually much better.

I went with the heavy springs as i have a steel bar, winch and dual batteries up front.

Hope this makes your decision easier

                                Will
