  • TJM XGS Suspension Kit

Hi, new to the forum and my first post.
I am looking at a suspension kit with a bit of lift for my newly acquired 2008 D4-D GXL Prado with Option 1 Safety Pack.

Looked at the OME for about $1600 fitted and the TJM XJS for about $1450.
ARB only provides 25mm front lift and 40mm rear lift.
TJM have two heights - one is about the same as the ARBs and their other one is 10mm higher all round. ( I guess that is the Heavy Duty kit )
I'm in a bit of a hurry to get it fitted before April 1, and my local ARB shop can't fit me in whereas TJM can.

So the question is, has anyone got the TJM XJS kit and how is it performing ? ( I did try a search but came up with nothing on this particular kit )
Anyone has issues with Toyo warranty with the higher TJM kit fitted ?

    Tks
    Cheers, Wayne

    Re: TJM XJS Suspension Kit

Did the same sort of search this time last year - TJM gear notable for its absence in this forum.
I took that as being not such a good recommendation for the product.
Could be, though, that just nobody has any complaints or concerns?
But then happy customers usually write good things.
I went OME because I had contacts at ARB and price was good (much less than your figure), and had good experience with OME on my old Prado 90 series.
Am reasonably happy with my choice. There's always compromises.
Otherwise, would probably have gone for the Kings/Bilsteins after reading various threads on this site.

Thanks, ARB said they only do max. 25mm at the front because of the IFS setup. Which makes me wonder if the 40mm that TJM offer is going to cause issues.

I've got the TJM gear, 2" lift with poly air on the rear. Couldn't be happier. It rides well on the black top and the rough stuff.

            Re: TJM XGS Suspension Kit

Both ARB and TJM are very conservative about their suspension height claims. You will get the lift they claim at the full load carrying ability of the spring.

So 25mm at the front is with around a 120kg weight increase as well

With the OME HD springs I got 50mm at the front even with a steel bar and winch going on at the same time.

                  Re: TJM XGS Suspension Kit

Hi Ozwapet2. Shop around and you will find you can get OME at prices comparable to TJM. I'm currently in the market and was quoted about $1640 from ARB for OME but they said if I was part of a club then they would knock 10% of the components (no change on the $355 labour which is cheap for a full days work). I then rang a few other non ARB places that sell ARB gear and they were quite happy to go a but less than the ARB discounted price.

We have done a full suspension upgrade on my garage floor in under 1.5hrs. So a competent fitter in a workshop should definitely not take any longer than this. Charging for a full days work is just a rip off.

1.5 hours is damned good. I was quoted about 6 hours by ARB Regency Park and similar time buy two other non ARB places here in Adelaide. I've also seen others who have done the upgrade comment on it taking about 5 hours to DIY. I guess if you have the experience and equipment and no distractions (keep the kids out and the beer fridge closed  ) then it all happens somewhat quicker.

I'm happy to head on over if you want to do anther change over

Anyway, my point was there is an ARB book price and a real price. Just need to ask for it.

Total Traction did mine in about 2.5 hours the other day, including a wheel alignment and a couple of test drives.

I've found the Morphett Vale ARB to be a lot better to deal with than Regency Park.

A quick Google suggests that the manufacturer of the TJM shocks is the company Cofap. Apparently they are produced over in Brazil.

Has also been mentioned in the forum at least once before by Mitch:

Went into TJM dealer today asked the question where the new gold series are made, the answer china..wouldn't be so bad but the price quoted about the same as billies ..not a hard decision, you have to wonder what the motive for companies like TJM who recently moved all there manufacturing of shore to china.Because there prices haven't moved south..just all the jobs have moved north..
