    Re: bilstiens or konis shocks

I guess at the end of the day, a lot of the PP rigs have Bilsteins and I cant recall too many complaints as of yet?

OK, Bilsteins over Tough Dog I get... but why not the Konis... Bilsteins I understand, as a monococ shock, have a potential stone damage issue (if stone guards are not installed)... did you fit stone guards? I'm going to the Kimberley (via Marree, Oodnadatta, Tanami, middle of boon docks etc) in July (for 3 months) and stone damage is a serious consideration.

Why did you knock Koni's off your list (either 82s or the 88/90 set up)?... seriously the finance committee will approve 88/90s, but saving up brownie points and looking at the 82s.
Yes, I have stone guards fitted. I have also fitted extensions to the mud spats to reduce stone throw.

I went with the Bilstein package after recommendations by both the various people on this site and some 4WD colleagues. I've seen them all leak and break, including Konis. I trashed 3 sets of rear shocks (Toughdog) with the 90 series. I'm happy with the ride that I have now and more than satisfied with the billies. I guess time will tell.

        Re: bilstiens or konis shocks

        To be honest,

If Koni did what was required, we would be using them, but given the amount of re designs they have had, and the bottom bush issue in the front still, we havent found a product that is better than what we use now [bilstein]

We dont sell what we have access to, or make the best margin from, we sell what is best for the application.

I used to use Koni, before we moved to Bilstein, when we found bilstein were the better option for what we were wanting to achieve.

That doesnt mean we arent continaully assessing the situation either, to ensure its as good as it can be, and we wouldnt change, in the future.

Its also why we tried Fox, as they are a Bilstein on Steroids effectively, stiffer front spring rate we can use, and more oil cap in the shock, so great for long distance off road touring etc in a heavy truck, not as a replacement for the Bilstein for "normal" use.
