  • Front bump stop gap?

    Hi all

My front suspension has sagged considerably. What gap should there be between the bump stop and....whatever it is called (control arm)? I have measured as suggested and only have 490mm from wheel centre to the guard.

Has anyone had suspension covered by warranty? I have only done 70,000km.

Just like to have some info before I ring the dealer as the service department can be a nightmare.

    Thanks, Terry

The accepted method of measuring is from the lip of the guard to the bottom of the rim.

If you look at this thread:

    Suspension measurements

You will see measurements with various suspension set ups and accessories including the standard gear.

I'd suggest on a standard vehicle with no accessories you should be somewhere between 740-760mm

      Re: Front bump stop gap?

I'm only coming up to 16,000 k's now. With an ARB dual battery kit under the bonnet and sovereign bar I measure 740mm from the bottom of the rim up to the mudguard lip at the front. Never measured it before the dual battery installation but the front end has always sat noticeably lower since I had it done. Even with a full fuel tank it is plain as day that the front sits much lower than the rear. So on a new vehicle with no bullbar and dual battery install it'd have to sit higher than mine. Although... I do notice 120 Prado's in carparks without bullbars etc sitting down on their suspension a fair amount, on par with my front end I'd say. I can only assume the OEM gear is getting tired in such cases.
