    Re: Bilstein/Kings combo Information

    Switched,

Just got myself a set of HD King Springs, after the trip to Goolwa. Just trying to work out which springs to get... Do I go for OME, or something else?? Any suggestions would be great....

Dave not sure what your asking here, are you deciding on what shocks/struts to go for? The great thing about the Bilstein is that the fronts are fully adjustable, due the circlip grooves machined in them. I cant comment on the OME, but if I were to go OME I would probably pair their shocks/springs together. I think the HD kings in the front would ride nicely with your winch/dual batts up front.

The chap who did my alignment who does alot of work for ARB on the OME gear for ARB Regency Park commented how nice the bilsteins felt, certainly helped me feel I made a good decision here.

Its a shame I had to rush back down to Adelaide, had I known you were thinking of an upgrade you could have taken it for a spin. Let me know if your ever down the NE 'burbs.

PS Nice work on those snags and chops mate, I have alot to live up to now

        Jase,

That is exactly what I am enquiring about. I have the HD king springs now,and just trying to match struts/shocks to them.... I just thought I would throw the idea out here, to see if anyone has kings with OME struts/shocks........
You seem very happy with your Bilstein's.....

Those snags and chops were easy fixed....Sounds like we need to have another GTG.....

        Perhaps Saunders Geroge.....

More then happy, they certainly make light work of some of the roads around here anyhow. Funnily enough Erin commented on it being a better ride now, we used to laugh as some roads we travelled would "throw us around like ragdolls"..
Always keen on another trip out, it will be much better after the lift too

            Re: Bilstein/Kings combo Information

Raised Kings got put in yesterday, and the funny part is, the ride is even better with raised springs than it sat with the standard ones in! The valving in the Bilsteins must be suited better to raised springs. The front struts are on the middle circlip and it sits much better and also drives more balanced now - they were previously on the lowest setting.

Anyway, it seems to have also remedied the rattle I got through the steering wheel.

ARB deluxe colour coded bar going on today - so all up, very happy chappy this week!

                  Re: Bilstein/Kings combo Information

Non HD. Front setting for the struts was middle circlip, like Switched.

I have the ARB deluxe bar up the front like Switched, but I also have a dual battery.

If I find they sag too much with the weight in the front, I can always raise it another circlip on the struts.

Load carrying around town is normally empty, but I do load it up on trips. Airbags in the bag may be considered later on down the track to compensate for this, if I feel its a problem.

                    Re: Bilstein/Kings combo Information

Just had raised medium duty Kings and Bilstiens installed with Polybags, $2135.00 fitted. OME without the Polybags quoted $2004.00. Came up about 45mm at the front and about 60mm at the rear. Handling around town is much improved, especially around roundabouts. Have to do an emergency stop test as the nose diving under brakes was one of my main complaints, I reckon it will be heaps better.

                      Gday lads,

Now that its been a while since some of you have fitted this combo, just hoping on some more feedback and if there has been any sagging with the Kings.
And have any of you gone upsize in the tyres 265/70 or stayed with the standard 265/65.
Just about to order this combo for mine after all the great feedback from this thread.

                      Thank you in advance.

                      cheers

I haven't got any sag out of my uplifting experience and my wife - who's a little shorter than I am - reminds me of it EVERY TIME she gets in the car, especially in a straight skirt to go to work. (See, I have no problems with skirts, at all)

We changed the tyres from the Dunlop Volleys (I mean, Grandtrek) to Yoko Geolandar at 265/65 and still love the effect they give us.

We're now booked in to get a set of custom sliders/steps built, to replace the monumentally bent stock side steps, so that should be an interesting exercise. (Of course, I'll take some pics...)

John, welcome to the forum. For me its hard to say whether there has been any sag as I have done a bit of work on the rig since the suspension upgrade... namely a rear storage fitout. I have put the details here.

I have also fitted 265/70's to give a little more clearance and help fill the extra gap between the tyre and guard made by raising suspension. You can see the details in my rig build up (look for link in signature).

                            Re: Bilstein/Kings combo Information

Thank guys, appreciate all the feedback.

A little confused now after speaking to the Bilstein Distributors here in Melb today (Quadrant)

He told me i should go the Bilstein is BE5-A480 (Front) and BE5-A481 (Rear) rather than the A712/A713's as he has seen a few failures. But from what i am reading most have gone the latter with pleasing results so far.
To add fuel to the fire i read previously in this thread Darren from autocraft is saying the 480'481's are standard spec and does not recommend them.

Then reading Jase's post where he verified the part numbers with Sydney shocks as follows :
A712/A713 are the re-specced shock for Australia.
A480/A481 are the German (I think) standard shock
Conflicting info so not sure whether Quadrant or Sydney shocks have their wires mixed. Problem is who is right

In the end i think i will go with the 712/713's. :?

                            Cheers John

                              Re: Bilstein/Kings combo Information

interesting info from Quadrant, because I have used them in the past to get Bilsteins revalved and have bought Bilsteins from them before. I was only in there 8 weeks ago and asked if they had stuff for the 150, didn`t get any bilstein code numbers or anything. But I would have just gone with their recommendation they have always been spot on.

Did you ask them what the difference between the two shocks is?
If they are a different spec why is it needed and who does that? why is there failures, shouldn`t Bilstein fix failures?
I got 5 year and 100000km warranty with the Bilsteins in the Liberty, I would expect the same with the Prado.

oops Sorry , instead of asking lots of stupid questions I might just give them a call. ops:

480 and 481 is definitely the german spec
