  • Front strut mounts

    G'day all,

Have had a rattle/clunking in the front of the Prado for a little while now. Mainly on rough roads or potholes ect.

Took it into Pedders last week and they had a look at it. Told me that the top strut mounts are stuffed and they would put new shocks in (mounts come with the shocks they say).

Then spoke the guys at Suspension Stuff the next day, they said that the mounts dont come with the shocks they have. They then spoke to there Pedders rep and he said pedders dont sell the mounts witht the shocks.

The fellers at Suspension Stuff can order the mounts in from O.S and will take about 3 weeks.

Anyone had any problems with mounts before? Any other info or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    RT

    Re: Front strut mounts

    Hi Rustytruck,
I would get an second opin ,as there is no moving parts in the top of shockie mount.
I would check the three 12mm nuts on the top of the mount, top shockie rubbers and
    the top shockie nut.
    peter

          Ay bud,

Nah mine is around the front shock area I'm pretty sure.

Thanks fellers, I will have a good look around and try tighten everything I can. Has anyone ever had to replace the mounts before??

            Re: Front strut mounts

            Hey Rusty

The only part at the top of the strut (which houses your shock) is the top plate The shock absorber shaft penetrates through it and is bolted down. It acts to anchor the strut to the body as well as secure the spring. This has a bearing in it that can collapse and cause noise. I've seen tehse fail many times on a commodore's and falcons but have not had a prado long enough to comment.

My money would be on something else. I swore I also had loose suspension only to find the windscreen washer bottle hadn't been tightened up properly when they installed my ARB bar.

Noises travel...so I'd second a good look before you shell out.

            Good luck

                Re: Front strut mounts

Have checked everything and come up with nothing :?

After reading through the suspension measurements topic it seems my front is a little low. Around 760cm and most others are up around 800cm. Is there spacers I can use or am I up for some new springs? Going to have to try and find out more about these strut mounts too :x

Thanks a heap all for your help.

                  Hi all

Our prado is the same, when running over bumps/potholes you get a nasty knock and if the window is down it sounds like something is about to fall off.

Toyota cannot find anything wrong and have suggested its the brake pads in the caliper and is all normal.

Simple fix either turn the wireless up or ask the cook to start talking.
