  • Dobinson IMS

Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone has any feed back on the Dobinsons IMS height adjustable struts (not the MRR's).
I really like the idea of being able to adjust the height of the strut, but haven't heard much about them.

Are you only asking just about the height adjustment?

      Hi amts.
Not just the height adjustment but the whole package. No good if the shock is questionable. Seems to be a number of criticisms about the remote reservoir model. Thought the IMS might be Ok?

Ok, Not a big response for the IMS shocks then!

No difference to the MRR bodies. They too have a threaded section allowing height adjustment.. Being that the IMS is a monotube body, the MRR will likely have better fade resistance and damping due to remote reservoirs. (In saying that, I've seen them fail way too many times to ever spend a cent on Dobinson's products).
Dealers who install their junk love them though,, as they have a larger than most other brands mark up ability and plenty of $$ to be made selling it.
A number of users here have had their Dobinsons fail and lave them stranded.

Thanks Piggy. Thought the main issue with MRR was failure of the remote reservoir (obviously more to it). Thought the IMS might be a good monotube as no remote reservoir.

I'm curious what the typical failures were?

            Thanks.

Sadly the MRR are well known to have issues with their hoses and shock shaft/bodies. Plenty of write ups out on the web of them failing.

A bit of a late reply!
I ran dobinsons standard gas shocks for 4 years (90k) on the 120. Heaps of towing and off-road work, only had one rear shock leak a bit and it was replaced no worries.
just had the ims fitted to the 150. First impression was the ride is smooth. Will add details after Christmas with some towing and 4x4 work with them.
